Setting squirrel snares

Recommended Posts

Can someone tell me the height from the branch to set them and the size of the snare as well please.

I have set up a length of plastic 4" pipe on a piece of Hazel in a garden to lure the squirrels with hazelnuts and they are taking them but I am not too clear of the height to which to set the snares. I have read 4" to the bottom of the snare, which seems a lot.

thanks

think it depends on the pole your snaring on,, if its a thin pole it needs to be lower ,, if its a wide pole then higher,,, this is cos the squirrel is running along the top rather than clinging on to the sides.

i must point out,, ive not tried it ,, just remember reading somthing g waters had written about it.. good luck

I had a look on youtube videos and people seem to set them about an inch form the top of the branch and use a beer can as a former to size the snare loop, so I used that which makes it 4" to the top of the snare loop.

I set three snares on a horizontal length of hazel which is 3"Ø. So I'll see if they work.
