Brian-911 210
Okay so they won't give you permission.....but if it states public footpath they can't do feck all about you walking the land right? Im amazed by the amounts of public footpath signs in the country side going straight through the land you want permission on! Quote Link to post
j1985 1,983
Iv often thought the same, but then it depends what they catch you doing whilest walking the land!! lamp and slip lead at 2am I'm pretty sure you'll get a tug or at least your lamp confiscated ?? Quote Link to post
redcur 54
footpaths do give you a chance to see what the land looks like for when you go back in the night .. but then so does google earth lol Quote Link to post
yorkshirelad2 24
yer i was thinking that too i wonder what the law is on that. Theres no signs saying public foot path between 6am and 7pm and if you are "walking" ya dog in the early hours you would need some form of light and theres no law saying you cant keep a lamp. Prob one for a country sports soliciter Quote Link to post
rossi_j 99
Someone stood next to your car with a screwdriver at 2am is doing nothing wrong (technicaly) but the police would say hes going equiped, and well if you caught him you would just kick his head in. If your going to poach dont bother trying to hide behind " its a public footpath" just dont get caught is my opinion, im not condoning nor condeming poaching, one for the pot and all that. Just get on with it. Quote Link to post

Mooching Celt 659
A public footpath is just a right of way, the land it passes across still belongs to the landowner. Quote Link to post
salukiman 28
The law on this states that your dog is allowed to be with you aslong as it is under total controll in the eyes of the law this means on the lead Quote Link to post
bird 9,861
The law on this states that your dog is allowed to be with you aslong as it is under total controll in the eyes of the law this means on the lead thats it mate, had it happen couple of times, where i am on the footpath and the dog was in the field, farmer saw dog then try to have a go at me. Said sorry mate rabbit got up along the path and dog followed it down to field, said the dog (was) loose because there was no other people or dog walkers there mate. 8 - 10 times it works Quote Link to post

iworkwhippets 12,505
I make it a habit of digging out these hidden public footpaths, couple of weeks ago, i ventured down one of them, i dont think it had been used in years, anyways dogs on lead for a while, then let the buggers off, plenty of wabbits, then in the distance, a land rover appeared, so dogs back on leads and kept to the footpath, the landy followed me fer ages, then came over to me, thanking me for keeping my dogs under control amongst his cattle, i asked him, if it was possible for me to work his land, solely to work wabbits, assuring him with a demonstration with dogs and cattle, permission granted, acres and acres of lovely Cheshire land Quote Link to post
matt32 44
Public footpaths can be quite handy, some of them round my way are never used by the public, there a good way of recceing any land youre intrested in you just have to exercise some caution till you know what you can and cant get away with on them. Ossie n Arch 1,682
The footpath signs say "Close Control" That doesn't have to mean a lead, a well trained Border Collie could be classed as under "Close Control" Even if it's 3 fields away. ....And what about the Farmers dog, shouldn't that be on a lead then. I'll try and find a link from a Hill walking forum where they had this same topic regarding Close Control. Quote Link to post
watchman 256
Google earth is awsome!! Got me out of sticky situation the other month using my iphone and having the compass app too, I'd have been f****d if my battery had died lol you sound like a woman when asked which ways north, they point at the sky all the land iv walked with the lamp i recce daylight hours using said footpaths,i suppose some people just have that in built sense of direction as well which helps, yes they give easy access but also provide valuable escape routes cutting through woodland for example Quote Link to post
