mackem 27,438
"this is tomo, hes an old poacher and mole catcher" sort of starts the banter off,, lol Your their token peasant Tomo, its good to play at being skint and living off the land for some people, for others its not a game, its a harsh reality, plenty of people in this country live hand to mouth,river-cottage is now just a business, the original concept was good however, but HFW I think had always aimed it at the middle-classes,how many working class guys have a £750k smallholding to "Survive" on?

Mooch. 177
Hugh's gone to far this time, he's clearly lost it. I can't believe he would say something like that. I couldn't do it ............. Vegetarian for a whole summer? The mans a loon.
Born Hunter 17,798
I agree with him entirely. I wouldnt want to eat a dog or see a dog farm but logically he speaks sense. It's that sort of statement that is needed to make people realise that there is a living animal that has been killed to put the meat on their plate. I dont know how anybody can dissagree with what he has said in that report, its not opinion its fact. My comment wasn't taht i disagree with what he said, although i would say many species are "used" to farming practice and others such as dogs have been domesticated in a different way but i agree, in theory there is no difference to eating pork/chicken/horse/cat/dog/snail. My comment about Hugh was that he started off with shows about hedgerow foraging and wild meat, then came river cottage, then Hugh started to get a bit dictatorial with his methods, i agreed with his chicken out campaign but its easy to tell folk when you are a millionaire, not living on the breadline, and nowdays i just hope Hugh isn't just trying to be more contraversial and conme out with unusual or outlandish comments purely for publicity........ Wasn't aimed at you or anyone, just a general statement pal . Also I agree with you on how his series have changed, his first few river cottage series and cook on the wild side etc were really good and genuine country folk could relate to him. Now his shows are average at best and alot of his original audiences are left feeling like he is a sell out!
mackem 27,438
Sell out?I should think he is making top dollar then, with the amount of staff he now employs and courses he offers, bargain starting at £230 a day to learn how to be a genuine dyed-in-the-wool country peasant... http://www.rivercottage.net/shop/product/one_day_at_park_farm/ He started out with the right intentions maybe, saw where the vehicle was heading, and sold out to the highest bidder, cant say I wouldnt have done the same in his shoes, but take the river-cottage experience for what it is,its good TV and thats it. Born Hunter 17,798
Thats my point mackem. Yeh hes made a good amount of money and I most probably would have done the same but in doing so he killed the real essence of the original series. Fair play to him but what he does now is shite in comparison.

That's one of my gripes about a lot of programmes, a good concept gets milked for all it's worth, until the result is something that's a world away from the original idea. mackem 27,438
a good concept gets milked You have just given him a whole raft of ideas for next years courses,cow-milking,goat-milking and when the appeal of those starts to pale PIG-milking(I wonder if pig cheese would sell???).
