Lurcher x First rabbit??

Hi just wonderd what a lurcher x will do when sees its first rabbit or even catch it any ideas what would happen? Will she kill it or just retrieve??

Is this a dog you've got?

if so what training have you done with it? how old?

Yea she is mine. shes abot 5/6 months old. she retrieves well will want to go after pheasants when walking with her. but havnt come across a rabbit yet in her sight?? when Ive skinned rabbit in back garden she picks up the skin and shakes it well.

its all down to how you train it if its only 5 months old id try not to do to much

You will only get out what you put in mate.. still a bit young yet, start with the basics, retrieve, jump etc.. then get her on a few easy bunnies at about 11-12 month..

Keep training it mate, retrieve, recall etc, I personally would wait another 3 or 4 months then on a dark windy night go out with a lamp and find a nice easy rabbit squatting out from the hedge, walk the dog up to it once it moves and the dog see's it slip the dog. If the dog catches it then you'll know if it will retrieve it live or not. If not keep practicing, if it does first time well done.
