Hi Guys

I have been asked by a farmer to reduce the rabbits,no shooting and too thick under growth, so traps it is.He has 30 traps which we have cleaned however we have no instructions or any idea what to do.

The traps are approx 2ft long and have a spring trap door, could some one scan and post up the instructions. Also any advice or tips to help us on our way would be much appreciated.

I will try to post a pic tomorrow but will probably need more help with that than the traps  .I have worked out how to set them and now need help with the following.

1.how far from the warren?

2.best bait (bought a sack of carrotts)

3.how far apart to set them. Its a field approx 800yds long with holes everywhere.would it be better to do a bit at a time or spread the traps out.

4.do you need to wear gloves when baiting and setting?

Appreciate any answers or tips.

cheers

I think the best bit of advice would be make sure that no f****r can see them, otherwise you,ll have NO traps

Set the traps parallel to where the rabbits are coming from NOT facing the hedge warren etc. and when you catch a rabbit & dispatch it 'piss it' on the other traps it will aid your catching no end....Slice the carrots lenthways as they don't dry up as quick Bait behind the tredle plate & put about 5-8 pieces of very small carrot around entrance & just inside trap as well as putting some pieces within a few yards of the trap just to get them feeding...................

Oh & MAKE SURE you peg them down we use plastic tent pegs....or foxes/badgers will be dragging & tipping the traps everywhere & also eating the contents THROUGH the mesh!!!....not good!........hope this helps!

These are a bit close to the hedge really but circumstances were thats how it had to be.......after 'pissing' a rabbit caught in another trap they caught 17 rabbits in 6 days!

(There are another 5 taps behind wher i took pic)

      Hi Guys
I have been contacted by the parish council as rabbits are causing a lot of damage in the small park next to the village school. The rabbits are travelling in from a neighboring disused garden but the owner does not want any measures taken against them even though she lectured me for ten minutes about the damage they are causing in her garden! So shooting and ferreting are out of the question so cage traps are the best option.  Have you guys got any recommendations for suppliers and any hints would be appreciated. Pegandgun on this forum seems to be a user of cage traps?

found this today at an antique show. Obviously a trap of some discription so got it for my little collection. After a bit of digging its a Sara patent rabbit trap from around 1905. Still working but abit weak. Any trap collectors on here shed any more light on it?

After reading through a few other discussion regarding the fenn mk6 being the only commercially available rabbit trap, in which to set in holes, and with many regarding it as being far less humane and simply not for the job as the jubys and imbras were, I thought a discussion on what would make a more effective, yet lightweight design, possibly taking features from all the traps mentioned above would make an appropriate and possibly, interesting topic.
anyone with suggestions on what they believe makes the fenn not so ideal for the job and how it could be improved (possibly the ideal design for a mk2 'rabbit') and what makes the imbras and jubys absolutely powerhouses of rabbit killing machinery, please feel for free to put your opinions forward and get the ball rolling
