Giving up is coming close

Personally i would be walking him on a long line and performing repatative recalls and rewarding him, i would also do this at night, and also off the lead in an ENCLOSED SPACE. The simple fact is you DON'T have a recall, and we never know what stock or dog etc is just over the hedge, a recalll wont happen over night, you may think it has but it hasn't, please just go back to basics are drill them in over time without the dog having the chance to bog off, mess about or do anything else BUT obey the command. I remember another member only a few months ago (Adam) who had a similar problem and thought his recall was fine after a few days and wouldn't listen, his dog killed sheep a few days later and was PTS. was this the dogs fauly, no it was his, please dont go down the same route and realise problems dont get solved overnight...........

Totally understand what ur saying. I dont know nothin about the dogs passed an thats harder as u dont know what work or training has been done wit him. I think hes been left to do his own thing without any discipline and thats why he doesnt listen on times. Hes getting a bit better slowly but it has to be on him consistent as he seems for forget quite quickly on what he shouldn be doing. Alot of one on one is needed wit this dog an hopefully wit alot of time an effort put into him over the next few months id like to see him spot on. Ill let u know how he gets off.

These passed few times that i have been out lamping with a dog that i got given seems to be turning me away from hunting dogs all together.

 

Well give up then and stop greeting.......same for all you other boring twats who keep crying about "I am gonna give up the game"

Forget about the game for a while , the reason the dog wont listen, is because his owners have never stimulated something IN him when he did, the last thing that dog needs is discipline, it will only make him wilder in the long run,,

all the dog wants to do is his own thing, as skycat mentioned,that is what he has learnt to date,, your dog is Hugely stimulated through drive,,i cant say that clearly enough,,work with that to make yourself the focus of your dog drive energy,,its that simple,,

get that dog hooked on tug play, its stimulates drive and brings you into that circle in his mindset, none of this is rocket science, its the basic nature of the canine, you either work with it or you fail,,play tug while out keep him on a long lead,let him win in play and let him keep bringing back the item to play again,,do that for weeks ,the bond between you is where the answer lies,

if he wont play at the start, tease him with it ,giving him no other stimulation , take him out hungry, it will appeal to him after a while ,but keep him looking for more, when he really excited take it away , then feed him little bit of food ,,then produce it again,,keep him wanting more,,he will start responding to you IF he see you as a way of using his drive energy,,he has no choice,,when you got a feel for what his drive will make him do ,throw in a recall or a heeling exercise with you hold the item away from him,,the dog will learn to be social from within,,best of luck

Agreed.

If the thought has even come into your head then you wont last long term anyway.

Buy in a dog that is uncontrollable and not stock broken...speaks volumes.
