3175darren 1,102
Hi I am new to forums, something I have never done before I have Rabbited and shot since early childhood,I have allways made my own purse nets and longnets,I recently bought a young lurcher pup,to help with the rabbiting its 26 yrs since I had lurchers, since then I have concentrated on gun dogs,to cut the drabble, can anyone tell me the recipe for stop nets,in my longnets I always use 50% bagging, and they work well and as stopnets in the past I have worked a short longnet through the hedge, but I have seen 18yd nets sold with 2 poles on either end???do they work and do they have 50% in them ie 36yds of net, Allso I would like to try and make a Trammel net, never done this before, has anyone got any advice on these or even mesh sizes and dimensions Quote Link to post
muddy210 34
i allways work on the principle of a pole every 5 yards depends where you get the net from as to the amount of bagging/kill but if your knocking a net up yourself then 100% bagging is best ie 36yards on 18 yard lines. as for a trammel i have never used one personnaly but have seen them used and they will bag up a rabbit well but they can be a sod to remove due to the design. looking through the peg to peg book i have it says 4" inner mesh with 9" outer mesh made in three walls 9/4/9 hope that helps Quote Link to post
3175darren 1,102
Cheers for that,Islipped up and put 18yds like a muppet when I should have said 18 feet with two pegs, any way got 100mtr of net from bridport nets last yr, so think I will have to experiment a bit,Many thanks for the info on trammel net,I too have heard they are hard to detangle rabbits from but might give one a go,my pup is only 7month old so trying to engineer he only gets very short dashes, this winter Quote Link to post
