International manager

Who do think the next England manager will be when Cappello steps down. Should the next manager be an Englishman? Why has a manager who has won so much domestically so to speak struggled to motivate the England team. Rednapp has been touted as the man to take over when he steps down. Do you think only an Englishman can get the best out of the players or are England simply not as good as they (or their media) think they are.

I think whoever gets the job will be drinking out of a poisoned chalice,we don,t have the players now to challenge at the highest level. To many foreign players in the Premiership, the majority of the top teams have very few Englishmen in their starting 11.

I dont think theres much doubt it will be an Englishman, and rightly so....more than likely Redknapp but i think if Newcastle continue the way they are Alan Pardew will be up there with a shout, possibly Roy Hodgson but for me it has to be Harry Redknapp.

I dont think its a case of Capello struggling to motivate the team ive thought for a while now the English game as a whole has just become too continental....the influence the foreign players and managers has had on our domestic game has caused our complete way of playing to change, the English game was never about this slow build up 50 sideways and backwards passes to reach the halfway line !....The English game was always about strength pace and a decent basic understanding of the game we never had players with the touch of a Maradona or a Messi.....Spurs play very quick direct football which suits players like Bale,Redknapp plays to his sides strengths he doesnt try to change teams or players too much.......unfortunately in the last 10 years or so we have tried to change to the continental way of playing instead of playing to our strengths.......Thats my take on it anyway.

I think that's good though, the best English players have to be as good as the some of the best foreign players just to get a place in the team. If the premier league was purely English players we'd be competing at our own level and may get left behind by foreigners whose best players would be playing somewhere other than England. Having said that, since the top flight has become flooded with foreign players our national side has gone shite! so my theory appears to be a load of bollocks! :icon_redface:

Just to add....I have absolutely no faith in Capello, I'm sorry to say I don't think we stand a chance in the Euros to be honest!

You're probably right, that would explain why certain top players never seem to come up with the goods when playing for England!

Personally I think the media put far to much pressure on the England team the expectations are way to high

I don't agree with that....they should be achieving far more than they do! They're the best players in the land, getting paid a fortune, if they can't cope with a bit of media pressure they shouldn't be playing for England or indeed in the premiership.....IMO!

Pardew is a good shout and I like Hodgson as a manager....I think that's the problem with the British style of play that's it's to frantic at times I think a complete change of mindset is needed. England have some gifted players but something just seems to happen to them when they pull on the White jersey. Maybe money has something to do with it now players should consider it a privilege to play for their country but there seems to me that the passion is not the same these days.

The press always look for a scapegoat when the shit hits the fan and it's normally the manager as opposed to the players. How many world class player do you think are in the current England set up....and maybe being a top 4 or 5 team in the World is the best you can hope for at this point in time.

Its too easy to say " they get great wages so they should perform "...sport just dont work like that.....they are not the best players in the land, very good players yes,a few world class players yes......but not the best in the land.

The media in this country is a disgrace.....ive spoke to a lot of people in other countries who just cant believe what our media does to our own sports stars.....we are one of the only countries in world sport who see more value in creating and selling controversy than they see value in backing our own athletes......no it doesnt give players an excuse for bad performances, but it certainly dont help.

I like the interviews Jamie Carraghers been doing lately he speaks a lot of sense and doesnt shy away from telling the truth regardless who it offends
