Guest Lurcherbitch
Was chatting to someone who i bump into quite often whilst out walking. He mentioned that my dogs dont shit much. I explained my foster dog's shit more than my own dogs because of there diet. He looked at me as if i was a loon. I explained the better the food the more that stay's in the body for neutramints and stuff the less better the food the more they shit.....it also stinks more and is sloppier. This is my experiance anyway. I am talking out my arse or is there some truth in it? Edited March 22, 2007 by Lurcherbitch
Guest MOLLY
Spot on LB. Plus the average person feeds that little bit too much. When feeding barf its actually amazing how little a dog actually needs. MOLL.
juckler123 707
Or how hard the dog is working but your spot on mate feed poor quality food they have to eat more and will shit more nothing worse than loads of food going through a running dog
ginge2k6 0
In my opinion you're talking shite........... what's that dribbling down my chin.
Hob&Jill 258
Seems right to me, just started feeding raw. After a couple of days the craps the dogs do turn to hard white powder Never going back to that sloppy, smelly discoloured crap
NIGHTSHADOW 3
LB I am asking a constructive question, just to make sure I am feeding my dogs right, what do you feed your dogs on, I feed mine on raw fresh horse meat and a hand full of biscuits onces a day,Now the hunting seasan is all but over I will reduce the amount I also notice Molly say we could be feeding are dog to much It would be good to also see what other feed there dogs on many thanks
reynardhunter 3
I agree with Molly about the fact that the average person feeds too much, if you can imagine the size of a dogs stomach not being muchbigger than your fist it gives you some idea of how much to feed, is that shite talk or what? if i,m wrong i,ll accept any stick i get

Guest Lurcherbitch
I think you also have to take into concideration the amount of excercise your dog is having. I own three dogs, i have 3 foster dogs, they all get fed according to size and the amount of excercise they do.
juckler123 707
Ive found a dog thats working hard will need up to 3x the amount of food that it would get if its only worked once a week quality not quantity every time some dogs have bad conversion rates and will lose weight quickly while others will hold their weight more easily. Even so feed em crap they have to eat a lot more than if you feed em quality and with quality theres less waste and the dog will empty quicker for work

I decided 1lb of meat daily (I dont include bones in this) Fed it for several weeks and noted my dogs weight. If the weight was ok, i tried reducing it by a quarter.....several wks later. If the dog still looked ok by another quarter. (Of course if your dog gains or looses weight you know to alter it back or reduce it more) This way i found out the minimum levels to feed the dog without it either loosing weight or feeding too much and pooing the excess.....if you get my drift? lampinglurcher 36
all my dogs get different amounts of food, in fairness they are all different breeds, but all get different amounts of exercise. my terrier, now retired gets the least, shes on beta light biscuits mixed with raw meats. the retriever, in working season gets working diet biscuits mixed with raw meat/fish etc, but when not working only gets a little less as we're out almost every day with the dummy launcher. the boxer gets the most food because he does the most exercise. even out of hunting season he charges round fields, gets into fights, chases everything and anything he can find (he is stock broken though). in my opinion the best food for a dog is natural foods (meat etc) and you have to find out how much food each individual dog needs according to size, breed, exercise, metabolism and so on.
