HUnter_zero 58
Hi John cant work out what lumens i need!!! Lumen's are only part of the equation. I'll try to explain. There are several LED's on the market that produce a high output of light (LED = Light emitting diode). First you need to decide exactly what you need the lamp for and exactly how far you want the beam to shine, for example you don't need a 200 yard beam for rabbits and IMHO LED torches are not really suited for foxes where a good solid 12v lamp is needed for ID purposes. You need to work out if you are happy with a wide flood type beam or a very tight spot beam. I have both and for all practical purposes both will shine out to 150 yards, but for rabbits I prefer a tight spot beam. Let's look at one type of LED the famous P7, these can be driven to 900 lumen's but are not very good with small reflectors or lens systems. You can purchase 250 lumen torches that combined with a lens and flat reflector will throw a bean 150 yards, yet try the same setup with a P7 and you have an epic fail instead of an epic thrower. Bottom line is cost. You can invest in a UK marketed torch, costing £200 with a P7 emitter or you can purchase an imported 501b bodied 250 lumen torch, install a new lens and reflector and it will out shine the UK 1000 lumen £200 P7 torch, if that makes sense. Hope that explains a little about lumens. In short more lumens will not necessarily produce a better beam or throw a beam further, it's not the same as 50 watt, 75 watt or 100 watt bulbs. Jay Hodge 0
Hi i have just got a cree 1200 lumen light from ebay for £25 and had to buy the battery seperate(£5), it comes with a bike mount that does fit on my s200 air riffle but i have bolted together 2x 22mm stand off pipe clips and this sits the torch perfect on my scope, i can see upto 200yards with a nice tight beam, only downfall is it has 5 setiings, but if you click the light on then off leave it for 10 seconds or so it remains on the setting you last had. You can get these cheaper if you dont mind waiting for 3 weeks to come from china (cheap option but good result) hope this helps Quote Link to post
