arcticgun 4,548
been reading book got some more on the way. Been looking for a mentor emailed a man from a club by me and no look. Think i mite have to learn on my way the way it is going. multiple books will give you multiple opinions of how things are done, best get one decent one and stick with it, I recomend Phil Glasiers Falconry and Hawking and also to gain greater allround understanding of BOP's in general Nick Fox's Understanding Birds of Prey, a very detailed and insightful book, well worth reading. Going it alone is a hard lonely road that could well lead to disaster, ruining the expirience for yourself and the bird. As lads have already said get out with a falconer/hawker ferreting watching etc, find the nearest club and pop along, get round the farms and ask for permisson so that when it all comes together your ready and have somewhere to fly the bird legaly. Spend the time whilst looking for club mentor etc reading and re-reading the books, get the dvd set grovesey recomended, save for equipment and bulid a top class mews and weathering, if you get to next year and you by some miracle cannopt find a club or mentor, then maybe look to buy a bird buut when you got to visit potential sellers , tell them your situation, show then you knwo your stuff and pictures of the mews etc you built and Id wager if you visited 10 men one would be good enough to help you out.
