If you slipped dogs on a herd of red deer would they generally go for the smallest and weakest?

Ive no experience so maybe its an ignorant question.

Theres a good few red deer up in the hills around here.

Maybe it would be devil-take-the-hindmost KVN,same as with a herd of lamped fallow?I dont really know how they single one out,but they instinctively seem to know which one to pick,like a pack of wolves or cape hunting dogs.

Ive known Tom Riely for 25 years been going up there 3/4 times a year for 25 years,and for all you folk who call him a dick ,lier your talking shit, let me tell you he catches more in a week than you lot in a month ,hes out 5 nights a week ,the bloke keeps him self to him self and his dogs to the job what thier bred for,just because hes not in the little internet click ,i dont normally write on this just sit and read to the little clicks slagging off people ,but when theres a theres a good mate involved time to write. oh yea thanks tomo for getting back to me when i pm you 2 after you said you would sent me the george curtis dvd. too many people writing when they should be lamping.

i found his claims to be true mate, dont quote me on all he has wrote mind lol, but i found him very geniune ,and more important his dogs do the job ,and hes out 5 nights a week sometimes on the reds (preban) dont know about henry doing a marathon a day mind,lol like a bit of tabbing with bergan do you in hills?

 

i do like a bit of tabbing..was just out on friday as it was did a slack ten miles in one 40 mins with 46 llb on..free most weekends deerman if you fancy a wee meander through the woods?????

Hi im in the north west of donegal. In glen veigh national park theyve reintroduced some red dear from scotland, along with golden eagles. The herd of reds has gotten big this last couple years and its range is spreading. Ive seen the bucks fighting - so much power. Also i had a close call once, came upon a stag that was resting in a sort of cave. He bolted out 10 meters from us stamping his feet like a bull, didnt know if he was going to charge. He turned and ran though very fast. There nearly built like a small horse with antlers. Must be something to see a dog slipped on one.

about 70% of the time deer run in to some thing

 

Especially, on the lamp

but its the dog putting pressure on the deer to cause it to run into somthing ....so it dosent matter how they are caught as long as they are....

done my tabbing mate ,done 15 years in 2 para, you would get a grade A on P coy with that timming, no good for the knees ,you stick to running no kit,lol but you cant beat going for 10miler with platoon and lurcher then slipping off on training area for the deer ,get safety wagon to pick them up and back to camp. lol

Right we have had the discussion on fallow being taken by all kind of lurchers but what about the awesome huge red deer. Anyone had any experience with taking reds with lurchers pre ban. This one creature that is not going to be taken by a 22" whippet cross because we all know it would get killed withe ease but what would you need how many and have anyone had any experience?

I live in the South east ,so havent had many opportunities to run big stuff,my 27 in saluki x has taken a couple of the smaller fellas,preban ,was travelling through Suffolk the other week,early morning ,on our way to do a bit,saw a Red stag in a field he was all most black with the mist on him,he looked huge,I know a guy who has taken them with a 29in bullx who weighs 100lbs,he was an agile dog for his size and a big mean sod,its not a subject I have any knowledge of ,unlike some guys on here,just like to say any dog capable ,and inclined to take an animal as big as that stag I saw is the real deal!

Seen loads of roe munty taken seen a few fallow taken and some of them were hard work.But ive also seen a bullx bring down a full grown bullock single handed (bit lax on the stock breacking) so I would imagine there should be dogs that can take reds though never seen one.JMHO
