Right we have had the discussion on fallow being taken by all kind of lurchers but what about the awesome huge red deer. Anyone had any experience with taking reds with lurchers pre ban. This one creature that is not going to be taken by a 22" whippet cross  because we all know it would get killed withe ease but what would you need how many and have anyone had any experience?

thanks for any replies

I knew it had been done but have never seen it myself, But a mate of mine goes stalking up scotland and he has a pal up there that pre ban exercisied his dogs on reds on a regular basis and caught many single handed.

I have seen pics of the dog running and catching them, that my mate took while up there.

Young stags and hinds, even he said he would'nt run a mature stag......mind you he reckons the reds in scotland are a lot smaller than the reds down south!

They are bigger down south that's true but the numbers are far greater in Scotland. Correct me if I'm wrong but its three hundred thousand estimated to live in Scotland at the moment but is thought to be far grater :D

Gary do you know the breading and size of your mates pals dog mate :thumbs-up:

Was there not an old guy up in Scotland that bred DeerH/ GreyH for that job?? I think his second name was Riley (not sure), a bit of a rogue as i remember being told but i can't for the life of me remember who told me a few year's ago now, :hmm:

Cheers ratcher, they are me mates dogs. My dog was f****d from the day before,he had been slipped with a salukix on a big fella. The salukix turned round when it saw the size of the fecker and my dog got carried off in to the distance.

dont let any body tell you one dog will take a stag down that his bollocks?iv seen them still going with 2 huge bulls on them and ,maybe slip another aswell to bring it down

Not a stag but a mature hind was taken by my dog whilst walking with the Wife and kids. It was in our local forest and caused me all sorts of shite with the police and the forest rangers. Cut a long story short, had i not been out with the family and making so much bloody noise to get him to stop the chase, and had fewer strangers not stopped and helped me track the dog i feel i would have been yet another vitim off this ludicris law. here he is the shite bag :icon_redface:

had a mature red stag and a hind on same night this season and they certainly weren`t run single handed though, 4 of us towed our bollox off trying to lift them into my pick up  when we skinned them off the stag had small holes in his neck from where he had been rutting with another stag, we`ll have his big mate next time ;)
