watchman 256
been trying to get out for a long time now to see a mate fly his female harris and today the opportunity came along. the harris is 3 year old and he flies her at 2ib 2 1/2oz so with tele kit on,collars on ferrets checked we set off. the bird was released immediately and flew up to the nearest tree then just followed on as we went. iv allways thought of the bird needing a good flat field with bunny bolting across it for the chance of a kill so when we got to a small wood line with a barbed wire fence running through it and the ground carpeted with nettles i was thinking how would she catch anything in here, just shows i never really had a clue what was involved. so with ferret in we stood and waited, within a few mins the first rabbit bolted and although i was within a few metres of it i dam nearly missed the action, just never realised how quick it happens, dropped out the tree like a stone and nailed the rabbit. after the lad sorted the kill she was put back up and we waited again. wasnt long before number two was in the bag had a couple misses and one that was missed at first but as i watched the bird back in the tree she started looking down with interest then dropped into the nettles for another kill. the last bolt and she was allowed to feed up on it i think we had 6/7 rabbits bolt with the bird taking 4 and for someone like myself that has never witnessed a harris working i highly recommend you get out there and see it for yourself, something some of you lads see everyday but a first for me and i thought it was pretty special to be honest cheers dave for the chance to tag along Edited October 6, 2011 by watchman Quote Link to post

watchman 256
one thing in particular for me was watching the bird altering its position around the trees you can see the fact its actualy working in unison with the ferret,if that makes sense ,we thought we might have to dig at one stage,i only hit the dirt with the shovel couple times and the bird was down looking over my shoulder but the ferret moved on and we had a bolt but as i said was pretty special to actualy witness the whole thing, and yes certainly was a privelage Edited October 6, 2011 by watchman Quote Link to post
