niall_b73 41
Massive specimen from Hertfordshire reservoir breaks previous best by an ounce. The perch record has been broken with a fish weighing a colossal 6lb 4oz. Caught by specimen angler Ken Brown from Wilstone reservoir on the Tring complex in Hertfordshire, the huge specimen betters the current record set in March this year by just a single ounce. Ken, a self-employed roofer, is no stranger to big perch, last year catching the biggest ever recorded brace of the species at 5lb 10oz and 4lb 12oz from the same venue. “It’s great to have finally caught a fish of the size that I knew were in there,” said Ken who has been dedicated in his search for a 6lb-plus perch from the 119acre water. “I thought I’d actually hooked a pike to start off with before I felt the thump thump you get with a perch. The good news is that it was a very young fish that looks like its been gorging on fry. “If it’s this weight now and it keeps on feeding over the winter then by the time it spawns in February or March or could well be getting on for 7lb which would be an amazing fish to catch.” Ken has revealed to Total Coarse Fishing that he has already has his scales check ready to claim the fish as a record and that the catch was witnessed by two other anglers, one of which was Secretary of the Perch Fishers, Steve Aley. “It was stunning fish, but when Ken got it on the bank we had no idea it was going to be that big,” said Steve who has fished with Ken after the perch in Wilstone for the last four years. “When the scales went past 6lb there was just silence, it was an unbelievable moment.” Ken caught his fish using lobworm hookbait fished at 50yards range combined with a blockend feeder containing foam soaked in oils to attract fish into the bait. Current perch record holder Neill Stephen also talked to Total Coarse Fishing about the fish, which he described as ‘an amazing capture’. “For this time of year that is a huge fish and a brilliant catch,” said Neill who banked his record perch from Stream Valley Lakes, Sussex earlier this year. “I knew that there would be a few 6lb perch caught this season, but I thought my record of 6lb 3oz might have been safer for longer. “Congratulations to Ken on such an amazing catch.” niall_b73 Quote Link to post

boroboyoli 0
I fish this water offten worth the drive I'll tell you. A huge head of bream me and a mate had 54 of 'em smallest being 5'5 biggest 11'2. supposed to be a carp of 55 in startops however if your after garunteed catch marsworth all the way . Tactics: Method feeder(with groundbait) down to a hooklink of about 8 inches with a hair-rigged hook size 12-6. Bait: lobworm, boilie , halibut pellet, luncheon meat. Garunteed bream perch or pike. 4 weeks ago had a 3 1/2 lb pike while bringing in my boilie - obviously thought it was a small fish. Atb Oli Quote Link to post
