CWN-HELA 228
went out this morning, wind was a bit stong but neva mind, got in to first field and noticed there was a few rabbit body lay about the field, due to mixxy i think !!!! lay down 3 nets on my side and brother lay down 4-5 on his side, ferret was down for a bit now had a quik search with the box and as i was walking up the wall out the first rabbit in the net on the other side.. the ferret searched the warren and there was nothing els at home, we moved on to another warren lay a few nets neva noticed a hole tipical rabbit bolts go down the wall and in to a stone wall..when ferret shows stuck her in the stone wall 2seconds squilling ferret was stck on,removed a few stones second rabbit in the bag..got to the 3rd warren lay 5 nets on my side and my brother lay 5-6 on his side, in the ferret does and she was in for a long while now, again rabbit bolts down the wall where i neva noticed a hole, so i lay a net over it just in case, few min later the ferret bolted 1 in to the net and also bolted another the other side, thought wasnt doing to bad bolting the rabbits..there was no sigh off the ferret when she had bolted the 2 rabbits, so out comes the box found the ferret at 2ft started digging half way down another rabbit bolts an slips the net, "oh well" so i checked again with the box and ferret was still in same place " i thought the rabbit had pushed pass" so i carry on with the dig [bANNED TEXT] i brake through there was no ferret in sight as im cleaning the hole out heard my brother say another 1 in the net, with the ferret [bANNED TEXT] up its arse " now i thought the ferret was feking about " then i found a rabbit in the block end, wat the ferret had been at its neck an blood pisssing every where..Do you think she had left the rabbit because she knew i broke through, and then moved on to other rabbit???? i think this ferret is going to be a good un ?? she is improving every time im out with her..CWN-HELA Quote Link to post

The one 8,482
i like them to stay with the rabbit ,it was handy it was only two foot but if it was deeper and the ferret showed at another hole would you keep digging till you got the rabbit ?. Quote Link to post
muddy210 34
i can sometimes be working some big sandy sets 15+foot deep so a ferret that moves on is best for me. and i dont want to many digs to that depth in a season. the first dig of the season is allways the hardest but they do get easier i usually block up the warren and move on to the next then come back if i have one that stays down. i then check the warren for the location and then start digging or use a live catch trap and a gutted rabbit if i cant get a fix on it. not lost a ferret yet touch wood Edited October 7, 2011 by muddy210 Quote Link to post
CWN-HELA 228
THE ONE... yes i would of carry on with the dig as i was nearly there, just encase she had enough of scratching at the back end, oh killed like she did... And if it was deeper than 2ft and i was digging down and she was there for a while, "and if she moves off" then i would carry on with the dig.. As its the jills first year so im picking up how she works.CWN-HELA Quote Link to post

muddy210 34
ive felt like leaving them alone aswell in the past but its on some of my best permission so gotta be done had a fert under for 10hrs before i got her back filled it all in and went back later started searching with the locater couldnt get a fix so feared the worst. dug out one of the holes to leave me trap in and she turns up bleary eyed covered in blood she seems to have enjoyed herself digging must have moved her on towards the sound. best dig though was to a russel that went to ground belonging to me uncle luckily i could hear him under the ground so could get a fix on him by the time we had dug to him he was 18 feet deep basically hed gone in at the bottom of the slope and walked in to the redun we had to dig verticle to stop in closing in on him luckily there was 5 of us to dig this time.
