joshcg 0
Hi looking for some help with my dog a saluki x whippet x grey. Had the dog since he was 6months, hes now 12.Took him out from 7months with my older expirienced dog another saluki x whippet x grey, just watching the lamp and watching him catching rabbits.Round about 9 months he was very kean and so i started giving him easy slips on rabbits, he caught 1 or 2 and was coming on well. At around 10 months i had him out again one night with my older lurcher and my older dog caught a rabbit with my pup just behind, the pup tryed to pull at the rabbit, resulting in my older dog snapping for my pup and just slightly nicking his ear. Ever since then my pup hasnt ran rabbits the same, if i take him out with my older dog and try doubling him he will just stand and watch the course and not run on them, even if i slip him on his own and keep hold of my older dog he will still not run them.Since this happening ive just took the pup out on its own, again just keeping things simple with easy slips, he has recently picked up and started to catch them again but still chooses not to run some, and hesitates. Obviously my older dog striking for him has knocked his confidence and he always seems to have it in the back of his mind when hes out, or it seems that way sometimes, is there any advice on what i could do with him, barring running him on his own and praising him well when he catches, or is this something thats likely to affect him long term? Really want to get around this because apart from his selective runnin on rabbits he his a good obidiant dog and think he will do well. Thanks for your time. Quote Link to post
coney clucky 93
id just run him on his own mate and give him time he might come right only slip him on walked up bunnies and he should catch them and his confidence should be restored just nice easy ones that he can catch for say a month or till you can see is prey drive as kicked right in lot of pups spoilt by older dogs getting to grips with them on gear good luck and all the best with him Quote Link to post

Moll. 1,770
Exactly why imo young dogs should never be doubled up, even some older ones. Good advice above Quote Link to post
