whin 463
first for me ive had several home bred collie types but no hock grapplers not a running dog terriers ye ,would be a handy dog to have ,did he catch them back when it was legal with like arugby tackle then just hock them sounds agood dog wouldnt had minded one of them even if he wqs tired after several chases did he still just hock them that old chalky maybe no he was a naughty man in his day lol Quote Link to post
Tiny 7 1,694
Whats so unthinkable of a hock holder Whin? Iv got a bitch (Just too say say not collie bred) here and thats her thing 99% she'll hock anything to bring it down from charlie upwards, And then move to the top end most of the time but not all the time she would keep hold of the hock (apart from charlie), She has never had a broken jaw ect and its not like this bitch has just seen a few know what i mean....? whin 463
niose , for one mate , secondly could start chewing on the back end if hock gets to hot to handle ,takes needless kicking mate you get agood buck he can kick etc plus poor dog could get dragged about if on a strong beats but if you no the game you no this all youre self jog on Quote Link to post
Tiny 7 1,694
Well i understand all that Whin, But dogs have diffrent styles ya noise i'll agree with you on that 100%, Can be abit hot and a bit of a pain if she dont change hold, But ill lucky enough like i say she;ll change hold if she gets a struggler so wheres the problem? End result meat for the table And all this jog on sh!t get a grip you tit you come across as a decent fellah on here dont start with all that shit comeing a cross like its only you that does a little ....!! Enjoy your sport and dont keep putting a downers on others hence the dale thread...!! Quote Link to post
johnnywippet 2
Had a collie x whippet as my first dog..so smart and had about 20 odd words she knew. 'Squirrel ' she'd look in trees. 'hunting' she'd jump around wanting to go out. i also managed to get her to range left or right .. "seek it' jumping around in long grass etc etc. A great cross but yes, sometime too clever for her own good. But man what a hound. I now have a pure whippet. But next dog will be collie x again. My perfect size I think would be 23" at the shoulder for a good all round dog. Now sadly I only hunt rabbits so the whippet is perfect. I'd go for a collie rather than bearded cross. Think my perfect dog would be greyhound x whippet x collie. It's really rewarding have a dog with brains...if not a rather complex relationship. John Quote Link to post
ftm 3,357
the dog in question mate WOULD not be pulled around by a roe i assure you it was built like a brick shit house with a set of shoulders to be proud of. i knew it would be doubted by afew [fair play] but like a few posts have said it can be done [very very handy dog] atb billy Quote Link to post
whin 463
i take it this is all colie corosses orfirst crosses we are talking about guys as there not manybuiltlike brick shithouses , im awary man of the truth unless i see it guys , so take no offence ,was the dog in qeustion a first cross collie cross etc mate and not the only person out hunting but i have had the pleasure to realy do a good bit and see lots hundreds of dogs work over the years in all sorts of countrys mate , enoy your colie crosses or types Quote Link to post
woodga 170
i have a genuine first cross i run him on all game excellent lamp dog brilliant nose most people who see him run generally coment on his ability regular bags of rabbits in excess of 20 30 plus on good nights no problem he has a good turn of speed and is capable of catching a few hares if i was to give him a run on them that of course would have been pre ban he does have a hard mouth and likes to get stuck in on things with teeth saying that if you can get a good collie x you can have a good bag filler mind you iv seen some bad examples as well but iv never been dissapointed in my dog cant fault him but iv been lucky Quote Link to post
