cut stopper

i have just took my dog and my dads dog for a walk over the field and my dads dog was running about with my dog and came back with a kut stopper and it was bleading pretty bad. how long befor it will be healed propperly and what could i do? thanks

try and clean it mate and see how deep it is,,it may need vet attention(although theres not much they can do) ,if it doseant look to bad lightly bandage it together to help it to nit together,,they sometimes look worse than they are and they do bleed a lot,keep your dog on the lead while excersizing and check it regularly,,

you can get various things from pet stores that stop bleeding,powders etc but i havnt used them myself touch wood

If the cut is at the base of the stopper, i.e. close to the leg, so it is sort of under the stopper, then it'll take a long long long time to heal properly: it MUST heal from the inside out or it'll rip again the minute the dog starts running on it. There is one hell of a lot of strain on the tissues there: just look at a pic of a dog running and when it puts its weight on a leg yu can see how much that leg bends, especially when the dog is turning.

Oone of my dogs did that to her stopper and it took over a month to heal 100%. If you let it split open before its healed then you are back to square one again. Scar tissue is never quite as elastic as the original tissue, so if the cut was below the stopper it can run the risk of splitting open at any time: not trying to depress you or anything! I knew a dog that did that and every time it ran it split open again: unless the owner bandaged it up: elastoplast every time the dog ran. That worked. If that doesn't work, then the stopper will have to be taken off at the vet's: and it'll always need bandaging with a wadge of cotton wool where the stopper was, just to protect the leg.

If it is just a flap of part of the stopper, then cut the flap off: it'll heal quick then. All the best with it.

it was soxs [bANNED TEXT] i was only other the local school fiels and it must have cut it on some sharp object because i dont think it done it when use were out with her because they wasnt no blood in the kennel

how daft am i it isnt the stopper is is on the front paw and itis one of the pads that is kut

If the pad is sliced open you'll need to keep the dog on the lead for about 3 weeks, or until it's healed; just put an old sock over the foot, then a plastic bag, held up with a bit of elastic (not too tight), and take it off when you're back home. DON'T LEAVE IT ON AT HOME; just make sure the wound stays clean, nature and the dog should do the rest.
