NEWKID 28,411
Try offering to pay for permission its the greatest cure for stuttering farmers and works a treat (in most cases) yeh that would start me stuttering,, feck that,, hare coursing maybee,, but not for bunnys Fair comment Got to be honest I could never see myself paying a farmer to do their pest control, no matter how much I enjoy it Quote Link to post
wezza 396
I have been out visiting farms/landowners last 2 days trying to gain a bit more permission for running the dogs and it's correct what was said earlier, mention lamping and they do not want to know... Gained some more decent pigeon shooting and foxing permission but all to be taken with shotgun and rifle only. Had some blank looks of farmers wife's when trying to explain what lamping is, believe it or not some do not even understand what it entails and are therefore reluctant to let you on. Some are just dam right twats and basically tell you to beat it!! Quote Link to post
Guest born to run1083
I've gained over 30-40000 acres of permission from simply just gaining a repore with the farmer and then simply asking, I think how you do it and what your wearing is crutial to the end answer, if you look like a city folk there less inclined also the way you speak as well can hold an effect, being honest if you can work for the farmer just the odd hour before asking this will almost quarante a yes if he will trust you on the farm to work and use the kit he will trust you to run a rabbit. also arable farmers are more inclined to say yes if lamped on foot rather then livestock farmers. hope any of this has helped Quote Link to post

I recently put up some new kennels for them, asked about the land around him and a phone call later was given permission. It's not the best to be honest but runs onto other good land I've asked the farmer the name of the people to speak to around him and he's said he'll put a word in for me then I can call. Also sometimes providing another service can help, we were asked to clear some rats earlier in the year from a farm, around 10 miles from me went up there one sunday with the terriers and smoker we had 74 rats and the farmer was delighted, gave us a case of beer. As we were leaving I enquired about the rabbiting and was told no worries when ever you want. They can spot you a mile away if your gonna be a nob, I found be polite and respectful and you should be ok............this kind of works in most things in life. Quote Link to post
