First day out for 25 years

Recommended Posts

After a fair while away from the noble art of rabbit worrying I decided this year to get back into it.

So this year saw my plan of action being developed.

  1. Persuade the mrs that its a good idea. She takes some convincing as all she can see is a shed full of guns, fishing tackle, camo gear etc etc......
  2. Build a hutch and court.
  3. Source some good nets and a locater.
  4. Get me some furry friends.
  5. Remind the Mrs that it's still a good idea.

So with all that done today marked the first trip.

Out at first light with 2 of my 4 gills, a flask and a bag full of nets.

I'd already planned the day in my head over and over but now it was crunch time. I netted the holes I'd previously cleared and sat back with a cup of coffee whilst i waited for the bury to calm down a little.

I had planned to use two gills but my bottle went and I decided to just collar up the one to see how it went. Considering it was her first time with a collar on and the first time she'd ever seen a rabbit hole she was good as gold.......down she went.

I flicked the switch on the reciever to try and see where she was, with the beeps telling me she was moving away at a rate of knots.....and then wallop......a rabbit shot out of a hole like a ball out of a cannon......then another and then another. I now see why so many of you take a friend or have a dog.

Anyway to end this tale this morning was probably the most exiting bit of sport I have had for ages, only 3 rabbits I know but for me and my first time gill absolutely priceless.

All of a sudden the winter is looking good.

I was out for the first time, last week, first in 15 years, out with two kits and a six Month Whippet I bolted three, and two slipped the net, which I should have had.

I had forgot how hard work it is, netting up, crawling about,I was knackered when I returned home.

did enjoy it, slept like a log at night. :D
