Rimadyl and metacam are both anti inflamatory's and pain killers, they are both used prior to soft tissue surgery by veterinary surgeons to reduce both pain and swelling. As far as antibiotics go, alphamox amoxicillin are as good as i have seen / used personally, and sometimes a lot easier to get hold of than some antibiotics.

i wouldnt be in to much of a rush to use antibiotics/anti inflamatorys mate if it only happend the other night as you say and the wound is healing fine with just salt water bathing. the swelling takes a good few days to start to reduce. just keep an eye on it.

I agree, plenty of salt water flushes, keep an eye on it, if you feel heat in the area after a few days then you may want to consider antibiotics, but dont be too quick to use them, the dog may really need them one day, and you'll be glad you didn't use them at a drop of a hat.
