j1985 1,984
Layer the base for my kennel yesterday, was wondering when I could paint/seal and then get the actuall run and kennel up on it ? I was gonna leave it a week or so ? Should look smart when finished!
Malt 379
Just wait until it goes white. Drying time will vary depending on humidity, weather conditions, etc but it shouldn't take too long.

Swampy 147
Aas malt says it depends on many things. Water content of concrete, cement content of concrete and the volume of concrete poured. If you are to be drilling holding down bolts, frixings etc you should wait at least 7 days. Concrete strengths are normally measured at 7 Day 28 day and 56 days. So for a 30 Newton concrete (c30) which should be more than adequate for a kennel, at 28 days it should have reached that strength. Before t5hat the concrete is what is known as green and will be sensitive to wear and tear and frost. Cover the concrete is temps fall below 2 deg c damping down can produce a stronger finish but it is not advisable. Give it a good sweep after 10 days and check for shrinkage cracks. If none have appeared you should be able to treat it. rgds Swampy Women want me, concrete fears me ning

unlacedgecko 1,467
If it is still wet I would get a float out and smooth off the finish. My kennels are on a concrete base with a tamped finish. Doesn't half make the shit stick! I left mine a week before putting the free standing run on it. Does look good though. Who have you got providing the kennel and run? Or are you building it yourself?

christian71 3,187
It take 100 years for concrete to sett and 100 years to go off so they say

Good Point. But make sure you get a good level finish or with a decent fall on it otherwise you'll get puddles of pee. rgds Swampy Not taking the piss just advising on how to avoid it ning
artic 595
I would like to add to the rest of the profesional builders/site managers tips is: Make sure you engrave in the cement what year you laid it.
Cleanspade 3,324
dont wait for cracks put an expansion joint in it. just run a saw through it down to about thirty mil. you can seal it with mastic. good job . i would wait 10 days. but make sure its dry and dust free and it will be fine
