secretagentmole 1,701
Super Ten Mark 3 Review. It all started off when my wife found out she was left eyed, it meant her right handed Daystate was no use, she had fortunately upgraded the Falcon Prairie .22 for an HW 100 T .22, which is an ambidextrous stock. The Daystate was sold to a dealer who needed a secondhand multishot PCP for a customer. Which meant she had money to spend. We saw that John Knibbs had the new BSA Scorpion SE, in ,177, in beech ambidextrous stocks, so off to Shustoke we travelled. Now I have been a long time lover of the BSA Super 10, my second PCP was a Super Ten in .22, for reasons beyond my control (like some muppet had fitted an export only regulator), we had to sell it, it was replaced by an Ultra, that was sold to pay for a secondhand Super Ten in .22, this one was sub 12 foot pound as well! The Super 10 fits me like a glove, I understand it, I know how it feels (sad I know). But when we went in to collect her Scorpion, on the wall, with the new guns was a BSA Super Ten, Mark 3, Bull Barrel Carbine .177, I asked why a secondhand gun was with the new guns, “Because it is new!” I was informed by Mr Knibbs, “They found 6 in the warehouse, 5 Beech stocked and 1 Walnut stocked. The Walnut had been long sold and this was the last of the Beech stocked, quite probably the last new one in the country. I had a Daystate X2 in .177, nice gun, lovely action, but not my favourite, this was a favourite and I agonised about it on the way back from Shustoke to Norfolk. The price was about what people were asking secondhand for these guns and it was new, new, new, it kept eating at me. We phoned the dealer that bought the wife's Huntsman, yes he was interested and we sold the X2 for what we paid for it. Knibbs had put the Super 10 on one side and we went across to pick it up. The gun had been put back in it's box, with the DVD, instruction sheet, molybendum grease sachet, everything. It is great to get a new gun, even better when it is your favourite. They loaned me a gun vice to set up the scope with (Hawke Map Pro 4-16x50 AO) and I set up out the back on their short range. I name my rifles (sad again), the X2 had been Dy Syn, my wife had named the Super 10 .22 Dr Evil, what could I call a shrunken clone version of Dr Evil, of course, Mini-Me!!! Even though the gun had the Bull Barrel, it still had a bark that was a tad on the loud side. I like my rifles quieter than that. So I had a word with the folks at A&M Custom Gunsmiths, makers of the beautiful little Twink silencers. Yes he could have a look at fitting one, maximum cost would be £25. So we took Mini-Me in for some attention. After an examination of the endcap and testing of the grouping, Adi disappeared into his workshop and came out a few minutes later, with Mini-Me wearing a Twink. He tested the grouping again, pronounced his happiness with his work, we asked how much and he said “A Tenner”, so we said “Leave the Twink on the front we will pay for that as well!” Wearing his new pipe, Mini-Me was taken to my happy hunting ground, where I set up and zeroed the scope in the prone position at 35 metres. I had chronoed and got a BRC chart for the gun and scope. Set the scope at x6 magnification and I was ready for action. Now the trigger on the Super Ten has long been a secret little delight of mine, I love it! It was very interesting to compare a 4 year old Mark 3 .22 trigger to the brand new .177 trigger, there was virtually no difference, perhaps the .22 was a little softer from stage one to stage 2, but there was damn all in it. I tell you they made these guns to last! The balance point fits me perfectly and I have stalked for hours holding this rifle. The weight is heavier than more modern PCP guns, however that huge buddy bottle means I do not need to have a recharging system with me. This cuts down the overall hunting kit weight. The grouping was nice and tight and after 50 or so down the barrel it was ready to be let loose amongst the rabbits. Now I do like a short rifle for stalking, this is ideal, even with the silencer on the front. The Map Pro scope along with the Combro chrono we have means I could get an accurate sniper card. The pellets I feed are Prometheus Defiants or Crosman Premier Ultra Magnums. Both of which work exceptionally well, the Defiants have the faster and flatter flight though. It has shot many rabbits, humanely despatching with a good head shot. To sum up, a secondhand Super Ten is just as good as a new one! But it is always nice to be the first owner of a rifle and have that knowledge that it will be treated right from day 1. Now back to the permission, I have a hunger for Lapin a la Moutard. (the photos cannot be put up here as some contained dead animals)! Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Just got my prize, a pair of Seeland Keeper Camo gloves, very nice! Something worth noting, these gloves have trigger fingers on both left and right hand, so they are suitable for left handed shooters as well!
