I started off with airguns and ferrets as a teenager, my granddad was a taxidermist so always from being a young kid was hearing tales of shooting and field sports. Then got into falconry in my last few years at school, then when left school got a job with a bird control company so at 17 i moved down south and took a job there with my hawks. Got in with the local click, one of the lads i flew with used to go for a dig and lamp the runners. So that was it when i left the job i gave the birds up and got myself a lurcher pup, got me interested and been hooked ever since.

started off beating for a shoot with my dad when I was about 9 or 10, looked forward to every season after that. then started ferreting with a mate of mine just local which was great. Enjoyed it so much I got myself a few ferrets shortly after. We then started lamping with his collie/grey, was amazed with how clever, fast and soft mouthed this dog was, he was so soft mouthed I was told he used to retrieve water balloons un-damaged! I never witnessed this but none of the rabbits he caught were never 'chewed up'. I wanted a lurcher of my own after that however I was still living with my parents and we already had 3 springer spaniels and two ferrets, there wasn't really enough room for another dog.

I only got my own lurcher 4 years ago when I moved out and I'll never go without one now, there's just something about there speed and agility when they are in pursuit of their quarry that captures me.

Cant think of many things better than being out in a cold, dark and windy night with nothing but a lamp and a good dog in pursuit of game
