A hot Sunday morning

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. Thought I would give a quick write up of a few hours out this morning with Rossi J from on here. We got to the permission(a local football club). We go there and after having a recy on Tuesday I thought I knew where the rabbits would be. We did a big bramble bush on the edge of the training pitch. it wasn't possible to lay any purse nets down so we had the 2 dogs plus the 50 yard long net. I placed the long net where I thought the rabbits would bolt. But sods law, the one rabbit who bolted, bolted in the only place not covered by the net or dog. After a bit of a course from my dog, the rabbit managed to live for another day. That was the only bit of action we had from that warren.

We then moved onto the edge of the training pitch, which is a strip of about 200yards and about 20 yards wide with bushes as well as bare dirt. I knew there was definitely rabbits about in this warren from previous times. we set about laying the purse nets, but as everyone knows not all holes are possible to net. we probably netted about 60% of the holes. And once again sods law, the 4 rabbits that bolted, bolted of unnetted holes. Fortunately they were just hole hopping in the same warren. My dog, magic(collie bull grey. Black and tan) is a typical hot headed bull x and likes to sit right in the hedge waiting. Luckily she knows what she is doing and the rabbit bolted straight into her mouth. First rabbit of the sigh. Big sigh of relief. After more hole hopping and still none of our purse nets being used by the rabbits, we had one bolt into the field, and luckily the long net was there and with Rossi J's dog, Sky(whippet grey. Black and white) that was rabbit number 2 in the bag. That was all from this warren. God knows where them hole hoppers went but it was too hot to be hanging about worrying about them.

Final warren of the morning was the next one along the line. Same situation again really. Could only net up a few holes, so just let the ferrets work the hedge line. Few hole hoppers and one make a break for it and ran into the long net. I have had the long net for 2 years and never used it. Today has proven its a worthy bit of kit and will be coming out with me more often.

That sums up our morning on the rabbits. 3 in the bag, not a massive bag, but good enough for a few hours of fun. My god we deserved them though. I can still feel the stings and thorns now. Few pics on the end.

Cheers guys

PS. We had the kids with us for the first time. and they seemed to love it which is a positive sign. They only wanted the glory though when the kill was made. lolpost-33058-0-37570400-1317589671_thumb.jpgpost-33058-0-09015400-1317589685.jpgpost-33058-0-14895700-1317589701.jpg
