deano26 16
Hello all, Just to say thank you to Simon for taking me out onto his permission today and sharing some of his shooting experience with me, I feel that my shooting has benefited greatly! The day started with a zero session and some plinking on the range set up in one of the fields, Simon showed me where i was going wrong with my shooting, and then proceeded to demonstrate how it was done properly, shooting empty shotgun shells, splitting sticks, and shooting the ring-pull off of a Red bull can all at over 70 yards in the wind! Then we went for a mooch about the woods and between spells of rain i managed a squirrel at around 25 yards, clean head shot and down it went! I do believe the final count was 2-1 to Simon. All in all a brilliant and Thoroughly enjoyable day shooting with a true gentleman and an excellent shooter! So thank you again Simon for all the help and advice, and a good days shooting. Regards Dean Quote Link to post
Daz 7 563
Simon is a True Gent, A proper Ex Military Sniper, What he taught you on His Permission people would pay for. Between Simon & Andy they are some of the Best Springer Marksmen out there, And they could hold their own with the Top PCP lads, I'm glad you enjoyed the Experience Dean. regards Daz 1 Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,587
Dean that is so kind of you to say me young master! Daz that's very kind of you to say these things too :icon_redface: Andy is unquestionably one of the finest air rifle shots and airgun technical boffins I've come across in many a long while. We have some fantastic times out when the weather allows us to go at some bloody mental distance targets! It is a gift of this forum that there are seriously talented marksmen such as youself, Andy, Markha, Davyt63 and zini, Marksman, Festa and Wurz, Bill/Sweeney Todd and others who put themselves forwards and put their knowledge on the table and help out whoever needs a bit of help with his shooting. I am just so proud to able to contribute a bit of my own in the spirit of these fine lads. So Dean...Great day out with the rifles, wasn't it! Your natural shooting is fine really, you just need to soften the trigger-pull on your HW77K till you can gently release it, predictably, without pulling your shot to right. And work on your controlling hand's contact with the grip, like I showed you and you'll find the rest will fall into place exactly as I predict for you. Nothing major needed there to get you shooting really properly mate. It's just lots of practice till you can do it without thinking! H&N FIELD & TARGET TROPHY .22 are the pellet of choice for your rifle, no question. Much better down-range performance than the Superdomes you have been using. And don't be afraid to get your scope into proper focus. PIN SHARP SIGHTPICTURE LADDIE! That's what we want to see! As you saw, I shot 25-metre test shots, zero tuning and out to extreme long range targets with your .22 HW77K carbine (love the handling of it by the way!) as well as my own HW77 .22. So it wasn't a fluke, luck, black magic or Davey Crocket's PCP. Just a few sound marksmanship principles applied to an accurate, quality spring air rifle, a good scope and the right pellet up the spout. And you've seen for yourself now, that you do not need to buy a top dollar PCP to get killer accuracy performance. But what a bloody lovely shooting machine of an air rifle the venerable HW77 honestly is. Now you know why I love mine so much Dean. Yours is a beauty, in great condition. You must keep her that way young sir. And she'll reward you at the target every time and still be shooting after your desired PCP has run out of puff! (you sure you want one of those contraptions?) Fantastic headshot on the 25 yarder squirrel you got today too. My first Squirrel was a more modest 20-odd metres up a tree trunk..... The second Squirrel however..... Well, let's just say modesty here forbids me to say how much further on that was but, :toast: :toast: you can guess! All the very best young friend and call me if there's anything else I can help you with! Simon. Edit to add. By the way Gentlemen, if any of you in the Sheffield area would like to offer this young fellow a bit of permission or a guest gun on yours, I have no hesitation in recommending Dean as a very capable shot and a thoroughly likeable, level-headed young man who takes his responsibilities as a shooter very seriously. It is a genuine pleasure to shoot with him. Edited October 3, 2011 by pianoman Quote Link to post
