Sounds like an ideal foundation for breeding FTB

shovel the c**t

dont see the point of any dog that carnt be trusted around other dogs, accident waiting to happen and will get you into trouble soon enough. i bet its good with stock aswell. WHY breed off it?????????

id say keeping her on a chain is not helping the aggression side of thing s either as its a know way of bringing out the aggression/guard instincts in some of the bigger watchdog type breeds .

im not knocking you mate but from experience with a simular 3/8 5/8 bitch, it takes all the fun out of working a dog, always wondering who`s coming round the corner, do they have a dog, whots in the next but one field when you slip on the lamp. no wont do that again

Its a terrier he is on about not a lurcher, and if they are brought on from a pup in the right manner {stock broken, well socialised and manners put on them they are no different to any other breed}I have a staffxpatt dog that is one of the calmest dogs i ever had about the place, but a demon at his work.

Just feed her seperately, away from the pups and dont make too much of a fuss over the pups as she may get jealous. The pups usually open there eyes from about 12..14 days so dont worry about them.Best of luck with them buddy.

Some dogs are so food proud that even bitches with pups 'forget' that the pups are theirs when there is food around. She sees them as competition for the food. Like Deemac says, the chain can make things a lot worse. Bitch can't get away from other dogs, pups when she needs to. Chaining a dog deprives it of the ability to hide, flee, and eat in peace. I have dogs which have to be fed away from the others in quiet kennels or they bolt their food or get aggressive. IMO no bitch should be chained while she is nursing pups. Bitches should have quiet whelping kennels well away from other dogs.

Feed the pups with the bitch well out of sight. Feed her well away from the pups too, and only let her back into them once you have cleaned up every trace of food. Food is the most valuable resource in the eyes of a dog, and even more so when it is a bitch feeding pups. She is under a lot of stress anyway whilst rearing a litter. Don't add to it by making her defend her food from the pups. And if it is meat she is after, and she's turning her nose up at nuts, then maybe she's trying to tell you something! Nursing bitches need high protein food to make milk for the pups. If you are feeding a cereal based dry food then it probably doesn't contain enough goodness for her. Try mixing meat and nuts together, leave it for a half hour for the meat juice to soak into the nuts, then feed her. And make sure that she is getting enough calcium: chicken carcases, lamb ribs, whole milk yoguhurt, puppy formula milk powder mixed with water to the recommended proportions.

thank you for the advice skycat.i forgot to mention the bitch is in the house and not on a chain at the moment it wud surly injur the pups.i feed my dogs raw meat but am boiling her meat at the moment as she wont eat it or touch bone unless cooked and she was never like this.i had the door closed and heard growling and im sure it was the smell of the meat doing it.she has me on edge now checking every 15 minutes but im sure that will calm as iv learned the reason why.well im hoping its the reason.tanks fatman for the advice im taking it all on board

I've had a couple of bitches get really weird about food when they had their first litters. Wouldn't eat what they normally ate at all. Had one which would only eat chicken carcases and nothing else until the pups were about 3 weeks old. She found the whole experience very stressful indeed.
