shaun1986 11
ive got a pup collie greyhound whippet x collie greyhound and compared to my other dogs which is a greyhound and a terrier and my mums lurcher hes far advanced even at his age of nearly 3 months old, ive trained all my dogs to retrieve from a young age and all of them were very slow at learning, i spent a few nights training my pup and will now retrieve from me shouting "here boy". hes far faster at learning than all of my other dogs. so id go for the collie x all the way but thats my opinion and preference Quote Link to post
staffs riffraff 1,068
Think the collie lurcher has done more and better for edible game but different dogs suit different people Quote Link to post
mighty celt 996
has 2 be the saluki for with out a doubt Quote Link to post
moonlighter 1,163
I think all collie Xs are stupid........all bull Xs lack grit and determination......and all the saluki Xs I've seen had no stamina and have shit feet! Quote Link to post
rapidjenky 97
how many ppl have had ever cross or worked along side every cross to see which one has what to offer to the table? we have guys who sear by bull x but thats all they ever had! how would they know? the guys who have saluki and nowt else, same goes i couldn't give a shit whats in my dog as long as it can catch rabbits and bring them back im happy. think my dogs have alsorts of crap in them. used to have a collie/gray years ago and loved him, at the time he was the best dog in the world to me. now i know he wasent really that good but i thought he was at the time. now have a saluki x aong with a couple of others and to say she is a retard is wrong she is very intelligent just so bloody sensitive makes her hard work. chartpolski 23,325
Which of these 3 has done the most for the lurcher world. For me it has to be the collie. If entered properly will do all disciplines admirably. If it wasn't for the collie would the lurcher be where it is today? The saluki is nothing more than a fashion and like all fashions, will disappear once a new over hyped replacement is found. Yes you'll get the odd one that could share a kennel with a collie cross but on the whole, one trick ponies. Bull crosses are more handier than your salukis but still not in the same league as the collie cross. I've had a bull cross which was an all rounder but I know I'll never find another like him and couldn't be arsed trying which tells it's own story. Ba, how can you say you had a Bull X that was an "allrounder", but you'll "never find one like him again" ? How would you know, if you never try another one ? I try to keep an open mind on different croses, and have tried most.... but then again, I think your post may just have been a wind up to get us to bite......and yes; I bit !! LOL !! Cheers. graham4877 1,181
I'd say the collie as it started it all, but the bull and salukie has helped the lurcher world leap forward! don't see the sal or bull as a fashion that will die out, well the bull will with the little chavs that just got in to the game coz it was banned, <<<< sooner the better is you ask me! but the true lurcher men who were in the game before the ban will still stick to the bull and salukies weather the ban stays or not! TOMO 26,068
to say collie crosses were the ones that came first,,,,, who says??? and how far back are we going??? the warrener did an article in the countrymans a year or so ago,, with old articles from the norfolk warreners, and also adds from exchange and mart from 100+ years ago,,, terrier crosses were popular back then. perhaps the original lurcher was more a bitsa type,, who knows?? poacher3161 1,766
Carnt believe nobodys mentioned the beddy cross as they were more influentcial in certain areas than the 3 crosses mentioned and imho i dont think the merlin x eve hybreds would have been wat they were without them.
