Police will turn a blind eye to someone doing 80mph now and I don't think many ever get prosecuted even if they are pulled over. When they bring in the new limit they will be enforcing it more strictly, so there is no difference at all. I think it is much more dangerous to go too slow. How many times have you joined a motorway before having to slam your brakes on because of some prick sat at 45mph. Or going round a blind bend and the same happens? Or more importantly all of the dangerous manoeuvres like risky over-taking or under-taking/tail gating and general road rage in general caused by selfish people going too slow.
