uncle-silas 4
The field systems are relatively small round here, anything from about 3 acres the odd sheep fields of about 6/7 acres at the most , cornish hedged (stone) which the rabbits knock and burrow into, a mixture of pasture / cereals etc my pals deerhound x saluki struggles to get rabbits around here, he doesn't seem to turn tight enough on the rabbits, he is however great on foxes . ive started down the line of a bit of research and am thinking i need to go for a smaller mix if im predominantly going for rabbit ! this is were i need a bit of wisdom ! beddyxwhipxgrey unless you fance a salukixwhipxgrey of just a whipxgrey need the whip in to give you that take off speed! Thanks extreme hunter - that makes alot of sense, i think ill probably have to travel to get the right mix, no one really breeds these sorts of mixes round here. i tell you what, i've shot alot of rabbits in my time but have to offer the quarry alot of respect, its like watching a scale electrics rabbit, never quite appreciated there speed and even more so the dogs at work ! J.DOG 1,355
These sound good but don't know if you are into this cross and they are a large cross http://pets.oodle.co.uk/all/truro-area/pet_breed_lurcher/ Edited September 29, 2011 by J.DOG Quote Link to post
Lloyd90 509
Sounds like you want something small and nippy mate! A whippet cross should be handy! beddy whippet x grey should be a cracker as already suggested! Or a 3/4 grey x 1/4 collie, supposedly good rabbit dogs, depends what you want them for. I have read a bit cos interested for when I get my 1st lurcher, I quite fancy something like a Deerhound/grey x collie grey, incase they ever lift the ban for edible quarry If I didn't want it for bigger stuff a beddiexwhippetxgrey is what Id go for Quote Link to post

I always ask them why they had the litter, have they got there dew claws off, how old is sire and dam! but theres lots of other thing to ask Quote Link to post

uncle-silas 4
No Its Tight ! the fields tend to be long and narrow with not alot of time and space for the dog to get to the rabbit ! i guess thats part of the thrill ! Quote Link to post
123456 146
Think it does depend where you go. I got a place in cornwall with huge fields mate Quote Link to post

uncle-silas 4
wellcome mate i run a 3/4 whippet x beddy on the rabbit does the job and more very brave dog atb in your journey troter This is definitely the way forward, i was also recommended a Deerhound x Greyhound thats then crossed with a whippet to bring the size down, ideally the whippet side could have beddlington in it, sounds like a rare breeding opportunity though !
