Guest thebigdog
tie a length of string around the tennis ball and swing it around, get the dog fired up then throw it. Quote Link to post

skycat 6,173
Dogs don't suddenly become 'lazy' as you put it, for no reason. It is far more likely that she is behaving differently because::::::::: 1) you might be focusing all your attention on the pup and her nose has been put out of joint, or 2)she has been told off for growling at the pup (have you done that?) or 3) she is fed up with the pup molesting her. (Does the pup aggravate her when you are trying to throw the ball for her?) or 4) a mixture of all of the above. It is very important to give one to one time to the older dog as well as the pup. Make sure you pay attention to the older dog first, let her know she's the most important. They can be very sensitive animals, and can take it hard when new pups come along if you don't keep the balance right. Quote Link to post

Bootsha 1,306
Some lurchers with more of the collie traits in them do exactly this. My two at the moment, a 6 year old that just follows me everywhere, as well as a younger dog almost two. If i take them for a run out on the quad, the old one trots along side, the younger one runs the perimeter of the field before i have done, is back and for everywhere, but the older dog is alongside all the time, however, if anything that resembles game should happen to move a blade of grass within eyesight of the two, the old dog is away faster than the young one, it may just be experience, but i beleive it to be also in the make up of the dog, in its genes. The last first cross bitch I had , out on the hill would be away casting into the wind, while her kennel mate, incidentally the father to my old dog now, would be within arms reach of me all the time, but should the bitch see something or rise something he'd be away like a f****n rocket. It may be a lot of suggestions that have been said by others, but i bet its also got to do with the genetics of the dog, showing deference and loyalty to its master, the pack leader, YOU. Just my opinion, for what its worth. Quote Link to post

mattyg 1,862
sell it as a 100% allrounder.....or just leave her be if she is catching in her own way, not all dogs want to bomb around at 100mph just to suit the owner who dosnt want to walk as far, i have 1st hand experience. i have possibly the "laziest" dog in the world but wouldnt be without him. matt Quote Link to post
