Guest annette jackman
Went up to get the lay of the land on my new permission today. Early start this morning already felt warm some good holes in the hedges so netted up, nothing out the first two sets of about 5 holes, achieved only in getting nettled, and thorned to death, arms looked like id been hacking at them with a knife but carried on. Fenn set a small 3 holer in the field got a medium bolter for fenn, which was despatched and in the bag. Up to the next hedge, set the nets then noticed behind me 2 rabbits running the bottom of the hedge and into the next farmers field, getting warmer by this time . put the ferret down, around 7 holes that i could see, could hear the familiar bump bump, and something shoot out a small hole that was covered by nettles, fenn on it watching her, she strikes then starts tossing it in the air, only 2 things she does that with, whistled her back and it was a small rabbit about half the size of my hand. Walked back to the set can hear squeeling another small rabbit bolts again but goes through the over side of the hedge and away. More squeeling from below, the Jill has killed, but managed to get her out with the small rabbit. Next hole the same squeeling and ferret killed (she was fed before going, and is usually a good little worker doesnt usually kill in the hole) Young rabbit bolted about the same size as the first, is any one else finding that the rabbits have had late litters? Its been a pain in the arse today. Decided to leave it for the rest of the day, to many young rabbits. Found afew sets and now know where the bolt holes are, still alot more fields to work and figure out, only two but it feeds the ferrets haha. Need this weather to carm down and kill off the brush and hopefully no more late rabbit litters. Quote Link to post
