Pups Have Arrived

Bull x Whippet has had her first litter with no complications so far.

Seven healthy looking pups, only thing is she has refused to stay in the whelping box and taken them all to her bed. . .

bit of a mess but long as they're warm and she is settled thought I'd best leave them there for now.

Leave her where she feel happy for the moment. Move them in a couple of days when she's feeling more confident: maybe put her own bed in the whelping kennel? Looks a nice comfortable warm place for the pups at any rate.

yeah she is happy there, can easy keep an eye on them too, just nowhere to hang the lamp so using a small heater and moving it from time to time

You mean you haven't got a heatwave where you live???? It must be damn near 28C here: hotter than all summer! Don't cook the bitch and pups: I could be wrong and you might have a cold spell where you live, but that bed will be very warm indeed. As long as the pups are huddling close to the bitch they should be fine: cold draughts are the worst thing for pups, and that bed should cut out any draughts.

yeah its warm, house stays cold though. not got heater on all time, mainly late evening and night, and not too close to the bed.

Hiya Dogs,

 

Save money - you dont need a heater on them. Ive just had pups and when i took them to be vet checked he told me not to bother with a heater as its not needed. As long as they are altogether and with mum they will keep each other warm - upto but thought id share best practise x
