For cleaning the external suface of the barrel and rifle and protecting the blueing, just a squirt of gun oil on a rag and a wipe over, cleans up and protects a rifle after shooting, perfectly. Don't use oils down the barrel bore. This might cause dieselling, affect pellet vellocity and accuracy and cause a build-up of mushy, dirty leading in the lands or spiral grooves of the rifling. Never cleaned a barrel yet with oil alone. If your barrel needs a scrub clean, it should be done with great care, patience and a cleaning rod with a light brush slowly twisted through the rifling. Unless you have a really dirty barrel that's affecting accuracy; leave it well alone Simon Quote Link to post
