Trap pan covers

How many of you guys use trap pan covers when trapping? i see the Americans use Latex,but i sorced some and the damn stuff stinks,i picked up from the pound shop a lightweight non slip mat that looks useful,they make a heavier mat too,but it is too thick.I will give the stuff a go.

Why do you need trap pan covers...........sieved earth is perfectly adequate so why add extra work and complicate proceedings.?

pan covers and underalls are for the us tappers not us,, mind you a bit of form /spunged under a fenn etc can have its days when ground froze hard

I have been finding the sieved earth in my area was sometimes locking up the traps especially after rainfall,i have been using baking paper,but something more flexible would be better.

i take it ur on about fenns, how is the rain failling on the traps when they are in a tunnel or rabbit hole?

I dont get it as well maybe your putting to much earth on them ?. but there in a burrow how can the rain affect them?.

If you'll forgive a daft question from a novice, is the sponge under the whole trap to stop it freezing to the ground?
