What a stupid saying that is........kettle of fish youd never get them down the spout and if you did, how would you get them out again....why would you want tp put them in the kettle in the first place.....you could steam them over the spout I suppose......seems a bit heath robinson to me.....and who the feck were they anyway??

The only kettle of fish I know of is the livebait kettle, filled with water to keep live fish baits in until you you need one on the bankside

I realise I might be going a little off topic here Stealthy would you be fishing for Pike with your live bait ?

I used to use live Sandeel while fishing for Bass, didnt put them in a kettle though.......bucket.

Yes, pike fishing, dont know if they're still called bait kettles these days? Dont do that much livebaiting any more, more plug and deadbating
