I can't call my dogs off when they are in chace they go into a trace lol Heard so many horror stories of dogs getting there necks broke or getting serious injuries from running in to things and even running in to roads! is there no way to have it under full control even whilst its running or do they get to much in the moment" to even hear ya? dave slight has is under full control has done for yeers my old man used to go lamping with him and fones him from time to time and he tells us about his dogs Quote Link to post
rocky1 942 Posted September 28, 2011 Report Share Posted September 28, 2011 then any x would do if you courceing rabbits ,if lurchers could,nt catch a rabbit i would ,nt class as it as a lurcher imo Your probs not going to like the advice I got earlier then....Been told lurchers are to big for rabbits.. this gets better and better collies are 2 dence lurchers are no good for rabbits i,ve seen 30tts dogs scoop rabbits up for fun ,well but this way a lurcher imo is a far rabbit dog then any beddy/whippet or whippet going on terrain /wind /coat/feet and drive ,their some right numtys on here but they proberly give you better advice then this wollie is Beddy/whip is a lurcher buddy haha Quote Link to post

I think most, and certainly most of the best, dogs, are very much in the zone when on game, especially right up it's arse. And to be fair, like i said, for the most part you never know it's going to happen until it's too late. In the last 8 months my dog has had 3 trips to the vets, one very serious, at the time it happened a very experianced dog man that i was out with did not think he was going to ever walk again, and each one, i didn't know it was going to happen until moment of impact. I never had a second to call him off, and even if i had, he would not have listened. It's part and parcel of working dogs and i think it happens to everyone at one time. And at that moment is when you have to sit down and decide if you will continue, if you can take it. It would break my heart to lose my dog, but i still let him run, what else can you do apart from use your head and pray for the best. It's in their blood and in ours to. 1 Quote Link to post
