I can't call my dogs off when they are in chace they go into a trace lol

some people can call their dogs off but once a dogs has the dogs has got its fieldgraft in order its starts 2 become aware of obticales especilly on land the dog might know well ,but for me if you cal

that is a load of bollax that mate i had a 29 inch lurcher and my curent one witch is 28 inch catching bunys with them for fun mate who ever told you that wonts sacking dont listen to that advice

barbwire fences and beddy/whippet or pure whippet or greyxwhippet

To be honest Rocky, the pure whippets i have seen have been headstrong, independant, fairly tough to train little fuckers.

Collie x maybe?

been told collie x's are fast but a bit dense when it comes to coursing? found that hard to believe for a collie as I keep them myself.

r

Whoever called a collie x dense. . . . . .well you want to stop listening to any advice they give mate.

(p.s coursing is running hares and is illegal).

yes I questioned it...I was thinking maybe they were about the density coming from whatever it was crossed with because it certainly wouldnt be a collie. Coursing rabbits not hares

coursing is a chase and a dog chases rabitts so i gues you could call that coursing if you like

You are not wrong.

But if i said, i went coursing yesterday. . . . .

Rabbits would not be your first thought.

Just a heads up to the lad.

I still think if you are after rabbits day or night, then a good collie x is very hard to beat.

then any x would do if you courceing rabbits ,if lurchers could,nt catch a rabbit i would ,nt class as it as a lurcher imo

Your probs not going to like the advice I got earlier then....Been told lurchers are to big for rabbits..

Out of interest, who is giving you this advice? Because they obviously don't know anything whatsoever about running dogs.

A lurcher is a cross bred running dog, bred from a mix of sighthound and non sighthound, usually either herding dogs, or terrier breeds.

Lurchers can range from a 16 " tts jack russel x, to a huge 30" tts deerhound x.

Your getting some strange advice mate,

pretty much any type of lurcher should be able to catch a rabbit

if you want a rabbiting dog mate and you've already got collies I'd say a collie x ( a lurcher) would be the way to go.

I've got a 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy and she's turning into a handy rabbiting dog too, pick what you like, put the time in and most of em will catch rabbits mate.

Running into things!

can they be trained to call it off should you think they are gonna go crashing in to something?

I can't call my dogs off when they are in chace they go into a trace lol

Heard so many horror stories of dogs getting there necks broke or getting serious injuries from running in to things and even running in to roads! is there no way to have it under full control even whilst its running or do they get to much in the moment" to even hear ya?
