best x 100s of threads but...........

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Every week there sems to be a topic on "whats the best x" i read them because im interested in everyones view. It is very much horses for courses and peoples general preferense and needs but............

I think the main component HAS to be SPEED i personally feel there is no substitute for speed because no matter how clever, tough, determind your dog is if it cant get to its quarry then all these things are redundent. Just my opinion whats yours.

Im not talking about what x is best here mainly the componants needed to make a dog sucsessfull.

interested in your thoughts.

wind ,feet, heart ,size, strength ,strike ,conformation even brains would all come before speed for me...if speed was the most important atribute we would all be running greyhounds

As long as it's fast enough, it doesn't have to be super fast. If that makes sense.   Look at the Don dog. . . . . . 5/8 collie i believe, and putting a lot of the super fast speed merchants to sham

speed...............some dogs to quick for their own good

Im sure there are exceptins to the rule. i have a first x bull and she can catch rabbits well just because of here sheer determination but im sure that my rough coated bich would piss all over her if i were to match them together based on the fact she will be there first!

I know what you are saying mate and the dog needs to be fats enough to get on terms with the rabbit, but it just isn't that simple.

You can take a pure grey and a half x collie grey up on the hills or in small paddocks and walk away with more bunnies to the half x no problem.

So no it ain't just about what is fastest. It's about a combination of speed, agility, grit, brains etc etc and that certain special something.

Agree with the lads above, for me in no way is speed thhe primary component, a dogs needs to be fast enough, but all those things are far more important to me than speed, when thinking of continuing a line, who thinks that speed is the main attribute? Not me or anyone i know.........
