beast 1,884
I have trained a few dobermanns they were thick as pigshit and had no drive or desire, males especially were big heavy idiots. Sorry to generalise chartpolski. I wouldnt introduce this blood into a hunting dog. Quote Link to post

chartpolski 24,431
I have trained a few dobermanns they were thick as pigshit and had no drive or desire, males especially were big heavy idiots. Sorry to generalise chartpolski. I wouldnt introduce this blood into a hunting dog. To say they have no drive, well, that makes me wonder about the Dobernan you have had. As I keep saying, they SHOULDN'T be in OUR lurcher blood, but they are good dogs in their own right ! Tango and Bruce; Cheers. Quote Link to post
lurcher330 2,301
My father had 1( a doberman) years ago and she was a handy bitch around the hole after a dig,But he wouldn't let me x her with the retired coursing greyhound my uncle had,i have always thought they would be a good x if ye came across the right one Edited February 7, 2012 by lurcher330 Quote Link to post
stevemac 442
It seems that anyones experance on any breed seems to come down to the one or two they may have had experance with or just heard about. I would put it to you that any consideration of any x would need the breeder to find the right dogs to start with or do you guys just go and grab any old collie or greyhound to make a lurcher? 2 Quote Link to post
danimal 1
my dobe is a eurpean bred from working shutzhound stock, he does all aspects of hunting with me and is keen as! he comes lamping with the rifle deer stalking ratting rabbiting etc most intelligent dog ive ever owned and could be trained to do anything! hes 29 tts and 37 kg crossed with something fast you would get a serious bit of kit... however a lot of dobes in the uk are shite! 1 Quote Link to post
hedge mumper 78
Was working on a barn conversion years ago as a weekender.the ol guy there he'd one from an acidental mateing as far I remember. The dog.about 25/26 are could knock the odd hare on big heavy Suffolk clay feilds. My main memory. Of the dog was. Bloody great feet.lol. Also it had thrown a deep red colour. Obviously it was give him as a pet but was a fair guard dog. Another thing I remember was given the chance an deep rural location was it was forever off hunting on its own.both dog and owner are long past long since but I often told folk about this dog. Not saying its a good way to go. Just fond old memories.atb Quote Link to post
bryson 562
i dont no much about the breed to comment but i think if someone that is very good with dogs had one you never no it could turn out to not bad but its a gamble i would never take Quote Link to post
molehole 1
'thick as pigshit and had no drive or desire',' Bucket full of water springs to mined',etc etc lol i dont think theres much point me defending the dobermann, as there are crap breeders and there are good breaders of doberman, unfortunatly for the dobermann most but not all breeders are breeding for looks and nothing else, as is the case with alot of breeds in the uk. but there are breeders out there that breed there dogs for there original perpose. heres some pics of the dobermann and the lurcher will post some pics of the puppy later on in the day when i get the cam out Quote Link to post
molehole 1
p.s can you spot the cat lol Quote Link to post
forest of dean redneck 11,707
both are decent looking dogs i know theres a huge amount of dogs floating around our small island but sometimes you might be better breeding an using your own exotic crosses than buying in shite from normal type lurchers that are untested parents anyone can pose a dog with roadkill lol it amazes me how narrow minded uk people are when it comes to dogs yet over in hawaii,nz,oz etc they make do with what they have or will give something a go . sometimes i wonder if dogmen abroad are better trainers or workers of dogs than we are, molehill if you keep one back i would love to see what it looked like and worked like when adult Quote Link to post
