kenny14 656
There are a few on my bit of permission and one of the rabbit buries has just been "extended" into a sett too so will have to give one whole section of hedgerow a wide birth this season. However, they used the same spot four years ago until it flooded in the winter and then left it alone...until this fresh blood moved in. Incidentally, I thought I'd add this as the BBC are usually so anti: I was watching "Escape To The Country" last night, based in West Sussex, and they were talking to a farmer who'd set aside some of his land to farm lavender. He said that one of the reason for the nationwide decline in bumble bees is the over protection of badgers. Must have slipped through the BBC net, that one! LOL. There must be litterally thousands of Bumble Bee nests dug up by Badgers each year, but for some reason we hear very little about it being a possible factor in the decline of these species. The 'fluffy bunny brigade' would prefer us to believe that all threats to our native species are a direct result of man. They also prefer not to believe the ammount of cereal crops that Badgers flatten and contaminate, pasture land they dig up, etc, etc. Maybe I've been wrong all this time , and Badgers really do only eat worms and berries, and it's those damn aliens and their crop circles, and experiments on animals that are the real culprits.... Wonder where I'd stand if I saw an alien and shot it? Would I be in trouble if it's not a condition on my ticket? What's the minimum calibre? ....... FFS I think I've been reading too much on this site .
FightTheBan 1,147
Badgers dont eat bumble bees, hedgehogs, eggs, birds etc they are vegetarian. They have very sharp claws for digging and very sharp teeth to cut through the tough grass. FTB

My favourite part's where 'old Brock' god bless him, was quietly ambling through a meadow, when he came upon a Skylarks nest, and ever so carefully tiptoed around it so as not to disturb the sleeping chicks? Blue one 89
Hi everyone, just out of curiosity, how many badger setts are within your general area? I know of nine active setts within three miles radius of my house. There may be more. Would this be an above or below average amount of setts for a normal rural area in Ireland or UK?
