He was a beast! Got any pics of him laying out next to something?

It's a shame you didn't shoot it last week because Fieldsports Britain had a competition to win a rifle for the biggest rat. THINK it's finished now though. My entry was 18 inches tip to tail. Got a pic but it's not uploaded atm.

Awsome footage as allways buddy :notworthy:

I'm going to put some tape around my Leupold MK4 so that I can use Si's original Scope mount and try some over the next few days.

Daz, it's a darn sight harder to shoot accurately through a LCD screen than it is using the scope/eye so a good few rounds on paper first buddy just to get used to it, then same again a night at differing rages. Once you've got that down pat, your well on your way to producing the kind of footage the rest of the experianced guy's show us

Yeah tony Bud,

As i'm a Novice at the Scope cam Shooting stuff no live targets for a while, only paper, Hard enough knocking Bunny's off @ 55 & 60 yards with a Scope, 67 yards is my best to date With a Rapid .177 sub 12 ft lbs.

So 15 & 20 yards @ Paper to get used to looking at an LCD Screen with cross hairs as that has got to be Weird.:boredom::o.

On the subject of Big Rats I asked one of our contractors at work the other day if his step son could to get me an invite to shoot the rats he has near his house. The lad is a trainee Gamekeeper and lives next to a reservoir. I was then shown this picture of a rat reputed to have been taken at the reservoir. I have not as yet been given permission as the lad is only young and is not comfortable asking his boss. This is not a joke and I showed the picture to another local who immediately said he recognised the bloke in the pic and named him so it appears to be genuine.

My immediate reaction was that’s not a rat but if its not what is it?

They are becomming more and more common in this country

There are various species of rodents that are called 'Giant Rats'

Have a read here (bit sensationalised but the comments below the article from the experts make more sense)

It was a nonsense story if I remember right with no body as evidence.people are often freaked out by rats even some hunting folk and silly stories make good headlines.

There have been enough big rat comps and threads on hunting forums to tell us that above average sized rats are rare.rats don't live very long so don't get chance to grow all that big.I think anyone who believes that sun story about a two and a half foot wild rat is a fecking idiot but id like to be proven wrong and would love to run into such a beast.even given the best of grub a rat would get bulky but not much longer,a dwarf could feed itself obese but wouldn't become tall.

Hi Pointer,

I said there are various species of RODENTS that are often called giant rats. The Coypu is one such species and a few of these have been caught in some of Englands Cities.

this story from the DM shows an image of once of them being held by a scientist aspart of either a news cast or a documentary for the BBC.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1304645/Giant-rats-caught-Lincoln-factory--monsters-there.html

I believe that Coypu have either escaped or have been released in the UK and just like the rest of the news the media loves to sensationalise the stories.

Interesting, as I said in my original post my reaction to the photo when I was presented with it was “that’s not a rat” though it does look “rat like”. To me its head is out of proportion to its body for a brown rat.

I have been assured the photo is genuine though obviously I did not see the rodent with my own eyes.

The pic was allegedly taken near Consent in the north east, on the bank of a small reservoir.
