scothunter 12,609
Its safe if those who have a nuclear programe keep thier plants and reactors in check.not like the russians at chernobyl or those daft japs building them on fault lines.
scothunter 12,609
I don't know why we're bothering with wind and solar in this country. The only people benefiting are the companies who make and install the devices with massive government subsidies. We have some of the biggest tides in the world here, surely it would make some sense to invest heavily in trying to capture even a small part of the potential energy in them, either by way of tidal barrages or some kind of underwater turbines.. The tidal races round some of the local islands here are immensely powerful, and some of the ones on the Scottish west coast are even more so. If just a fraction of their collective energy was harnessed we'd be laughing. In my opinion, along with fusion, tidal power is the only true, viable, clean & reliable energy source available to us here in the UK.. Im just guessing now but IMO the whole solar and wind thing is simply a government stunt to appease the tree hugging climate change greenies. The technology for them is around already and they are simple things. Tidal power isnt as quite as easy for em but like you say its gotta be more worth while. I've often wondered if nuclear fusion would get more of a chance if it wasnt termed 'nuclear'. Whenever I mention it to a greeny they shit their pants and preach how we should be going for renewables and not nuclear. When I explain to them the huge difference between fission and fussion they dont have a come back, its just a natural oposition to anything nuclear. The old CND spirit lives on! lol i remeber seeing them at faslane lolsome lived there for many years lol
graham4877 1,181
we should defend free speech 1000%, scot, but free speech dose not mean they can spill there hate out on our streets, but how can they shout pure hate at us and away with it, if i had my way they would be deported, simply lift them off the street chuck them on a plain end of story! as for r&d I think they can make a car to do 100mpg but they don't want to as there all working together oil and car company's, wind and wave power will play a part and solar (a little bit ) but nuclear is the way forward

Sounds like the hemp decortifier mate. And the ever lasting light bulb. Both patents bought up to stop production and mantain certain peoples very lucrative buisness. You're not possibly refering to the hydrogen fuel cell are you? That doesn't run on water but its only waste product is water. There was similar hype and conspiracy stories about its production. secretagentmole 1,701
Hey if they stick in Europe as Law then we have no choice but to obey it! Could be the only time the EU works in our favour, first France, now Holland, all it will take is a few larger countries to support this law and they have had it! Nik_B 3,790
regarding the solar argument I would start with putting solar panels on offices and tower blocks etc. WHy shouldn't 'green' energy be produced where it is used rather than sticking those horrible winda farms up in the countryside. Either by incentive or by force....then work down to housing and estates nothing should get built that doesn't have a solar panel and at least it will contribute. Problem is that every time we invent a technology that reduces the reliance on oil/gas/coal and then let in 500,000 people from overseas we're back to square one, or even fuel use is more rather than less.
