gnasher16 30,063
I wont tell any body that follows a religion they are wrong untill the point they try to tell me that because I dont follow the fairy tales I am going to hell and I am some sort of a c**t! In this case because I wont apreciate jesus's sacrifice he made for me. At that point I get offended by it all. "You must make that choice for yourself. If you decide that you do not want to be with Jesus, you will still live forever because you are an eternal spirit that is living inside of a temporary body, however, you will live without light, love, peace, hope, and without any of your friends or family, and with the knowledge that Jesus had paid for your sins and that the only reason that you are in Hell is because you rejected him." I'm a scientist by nature, I'm not pretending that I am intelligent because thats not true, but that is my nature. I find religion very hard to swallow but others need it and follow it. Thats good, we all do what we must. But when someone trys to explain to me Im wrong with their 'logic' Im gonna give my tuppence worth. I understand what your saying......i just dont get why some folk get all angry and offended by another mans faith......this buiseness of a non believer going to hell, well if you dont believe theres a heaven then surely theres no hell either so why be offended about someone telling you your going to a place that doesnt even exist !!.....if i told you if you dont do 100 sit ups tonight then your going to disappear into thin air you would probably just think im nuts and laugh it off you wouldnt get offended or angry.......whats the difference. I really think if its somebody you dont know talking about it theres no need to listen let alone take it all in...... i wouldnt give a stranger knocking on my door the time of day to listen to their beliefs......but when its somebody you have known many years, who you like and respect, whos word you trust......im certainly willing to listen..... Ive been listening to a good friend of mine in the boxing game, who many folk will know....on the subject of God etc and its taught me not to just brush off what i dont understand or 100 % agree with, particularly when seeing such a positive change in their life.......to just pass him off as a nutbag would not only be disrespectful but show my own understanding as pretty blinkered..... I guess its one of those subjects that raise all different levels of interest from none at all to a little bit to a lot.....im just at the little bit stage personally Edited September 27, 2011 by gnasher16

WILF 46,690
Todd, fair play to you......you have an extra thing in your life that makes you feel human in a way that you cant explain to someone who dont have it..........good for you. I beleive what ever I believe but what I know for a fact is that love exists, there is no genetic or scientific reason for one human animal (the most intelligent being on earth) to risk its life to save another and yet men do it every day .........explain that, I bet Darwin cant I know there are times that I have been in the lake district or Scotland or Wales......seen the sun come up and looked at some awsome views and thought to myself "Theres no way this or the way it makes me feel is a f*****g accident".........but I always say to anyone, beleive (or not) what you like as long as your happy........
Ideation 8,216
Now. . . . not being a dick or anything. But is there not a correlation between those who do not have the will power to stop doing drugs / smoking / drinking and those that do not have the will power to get through life without a belief system? But respect to you for being open about it and making the changes you wished for you life.
andyfr1968 772
Sounds like a classic case of someone who's stood on the brink, starring into the abyss. It's how religion gets it's hooks into so many folks when they're weak and vulnerable and seeking answers. Look further into yourself, mate. It's YOU who found the courage to get yourself sorted out and fair play to you for doing so

Simoman 110
Crikey, this is deep Do any animals love? Or is it instinct or pack structure or something else? Personally as a child i went to sunday school, although my parents didn't attend church I attended church for a year so i could get my daughter christnened as that was important to me, some services were well delivered and common sense, some weren't, but what i found ironic was the "christian values" some folk displayed, some were welcoming and friendly and really nice people, others were miserable cnuts who moaned like f**k if you sat in their "usual seat"......For me christian values are just good honest values(not neccersarily christian), good manners and a responsible attitude with morals..... Its was a requirement to attend church Tomo, most dont but this one did, i guess they wanted to test our "faith" before we were allowed to christnen our daughter, i guess many folk get there kids christended nowdays without any real thought to the act it whats behind it, more a fashion thing.... I think you are right with the first bit mate. I think many anthropologists would argue that love is ultimatly a way of ensuring security through a pack /tribal / community structure etc.

As i said earlier Tomo, as a kid i attended church, i still occasionally went and go to midnight mass at christmas but there are two main reasons i dont attend church, the first is i believe you can live what many term "christian values" without attending church and secondly i used to work a lot of weekends and it wasn't practical Many of my family are involved in the church, some are vicars and one is a vicar with the armed forces, and many others are church stewards etc, juts for me i dont think you need a church to have beliefs........
