I know what you are saying mate, but he growls / grumbles like a miserable old fecker, but you can still pick him up and move him. He just likes to register his disapproval. Miserable git, bit like me

Thats a worst case scenario but i would keep a close on eye on them to be sure you never have to go through that its not nice at all. They all got on like a house on fire at one point the first ever fight started over a bit of bread someone threw out for the birds and because the terrier wouldnt leave it it ended in disaster. My lurchers used to back away and try and run away from her if she kicked off but being a fiesty little cow she wouldnt let it go and eventually they hit back.I couldnt sleep right for weeks after that happened every little creak woke me up and i used to lock all the doors etc and used a crate for her and tie it shut as well to be totally secure.Terriers can push their luck way too far with the bigger dogs and it can all go wrong in a flash i too hope your terrier doesnt end in that state but one thing that taught me was id nver leave a terrier alone with another dog nor will i ever have another terrier either Blitz was the one for me and no terrier cvould live up to her in my eyes

Little staffy cross I had here was a bugger for snapping at ANY dog that pissed her off , I had a lurcher a year after I took her on & he was put in his place in no uncertain terms, they got on fairly well in the house, but if they were both off the lead & the lurcher tried to brink her down she would let him know he was pushing it , both dogs now gone , but the terrier lived to 13 & was a strange little thing

Terriers and lurchers don't mix. End of.

They might be fine out working together in the field, but no way would I have terriers living with lurchers: some of these posts prove that it just ain't worth the risk. Terriers are possessive, can be stroppy, and they don't care if the other dog is 10 times their size. A recipe for disaster.

I'd agree with you as a rule, but I've got a male beddy/whippet and a female JRT here who are inseparable. I think it helps that the beddy/whippet is the younger out of them.. :hmm::thumbs:

There are always exceptions: Starlight (11) and Sonic (16) have spent most of the lives working together, they now spend their retirement curled up on the sofa together, but I wouldn't have any of the other terriers in the house. They are more 'terrier-ish' and get all possessive over a chair or a bed. Not a good idea in a house full of big dogs.

Couldn't agree more Penny, fine in the field but always a potential timebomb around the house and kennels, and without exception the terriers always come off worse.........

After loosing the best lurcher I have owned in a kennel fight with another lurcher, who were brought up together and seemed inseperable...I would never kennel any dog together.

The mess they made of each other had to be seen to be believed. :cray:

I have two terrier pups kenneled togrther but once they reach working age they will be split.

We have all made mistakes, i know i have made plenty, i kenneled two lurchers together and as you say never again, the pup kept trying to push his weight around with the old bull cross and kept nipping his ears until they bled, i should of noticed much quicker and thats my fault, one day the old dog throttled him unconcious...........Also kenneled two terrier saplings until they were a year old, bad bad idea, they had the odd grumble but one day world war three broke out and terriers can inflict a lot of damage on each other, i wouldn't advise kenneling two dogs together period.................

I had a terrier here for a few days and he stayed in another room with the door tied shut i will never have lurchers and terriers together ever again.Flint and storm worshipped blitz and would never have done anything to hurt her but every dog has a breaking point. We have had a load of patterdales brought here from pet homes last summer kept getting calls about these dogs all the time. One was a scrapper and the other was massive for a patterdale and had a bit of an attitude with women. The we got Another girl who was as placid as the day is long but she still had a real go at one of the other terriers over nothing and as simon says it can be a real mess wasnt easy to split the little shits either.I had to redecorate the entire livingroom after that one took days to clean up the aftermath as well.its one of the reasons i started to use dog crates here

Well pissed off with this thread! I've been debating for months what busher to get, finally settle of getting a beddy.....and now it looks like I'll have to rethink. My dogs are kept in the house, but I've got a baby who's playing on the carpet a lot of the time. No way can I risk a dog fight in the same room as a baby sat on the floor!

Do people get the same problem even if they're not the same sex? That terrier of yours Ethyl looked a right mess!

what a pain in the ass! looks like I'm going to have to go down the spaniel route after all then! I'm assuming a spaniel and a lurcher would be a reasonably safe bet?
