The hardest quarry I've ever hunted, before I broke my time machine, is the T-Rex. I used to track them with my Nan's Yorkie 'Trixie', when she had one cornered and before she'd rush in for the kill I'd smoke it with my .177. Ah those halcyon days, much missed! :11: :11: :11:

i find daytime rabbits, especially in spring or summer when plenty of cover, very hard to catch. they just burst from bush to bush hardly give the lurcher time to strike. the winter hare is also tough but if its open ground the dog has some sort a chance. wouldn't know bout deer.

Before the ban (obviously)

In this part of the world, with a name for hares. Many a wannabe courser would turn up and run dogs (pairs or more) at hares through the end of autumn and into winter. Often following in a 4x4 to watch proceedings, quickly killing off the old and the weak before heading back to the towns to post exploits of forums :11:

By the end of the winter, any hares left would be as jumpy as a virgin at a prom. They would usually slope off at the first sign of man, dog or vehicle. Making for hedges, woods and roads. To get within 70 yards of one of these on foot was a feet in itself.

To run and catch one of these with a single dog in the daytime, well that was something to treasure.

To catch one was to ask something special of your dog and of course lady luck.
