brog 670
what would be a good number for a good fox dog in a week ? pre ban Really? Who gives a shit? It depends entirely on your abilities, your dedication, the game on the ground, the environmental conditions, the ground you are running, the dogs abilities, the dogs technique. If you want a simple answer I will say 10 FTB that was simple ....if you dont give a shit dont post........i thought it would be a simple thing to a pro fox dog man witch this site is full of but no one can or will answer Quote Link to post

There are too many variables. Its like asking how many foxes does my dog have to do before he is a 100% fox dog? How many times do I have to dig my terrier before he is proven? Catch my drift. 123456 146
That's fair enough ftb, down here you couldn't put the same amount of game infront of dogd in different areas of the country. Its like living in cornwall and saying how often does my dog need to catch hares daytime to be a hare dog? If that was the case you'd need to travel atleast 100 miles to even run them daytime Quote Link to post

craigyboy 1,274
not this old chestnut again macky, have you got an inferiority complex about single handed dogs ive never doubled up,ever, slipping two 70lb lurchers on one 20lb fox and as for numbers, why double up,i go out with my mate and one dog each and when were lamping we just take turns,1st fox mine,2nd fox his,3rd mine and so on, and are the dogs fit to go out the following night...of course they are,a good lurcher takes very little time and punishment in dispatching old charlie,if your dogs taking plenty of stick when dealing wi charlie then maybe you should try rabbiting your full of shit whys that then smartarse is it because youve never come across anyone with a good dog,if you think im full o shit because of what ive wrote, then im thinking you havent got a fecking clue stick to rabbiting or carry on doubling up i said you full of shit cause you are pal ... whats thar get 3 foxs a season you f*****g prick tha knows fukc all an thas done even less thas not got a dog good enough to even compete with 1 a mine ye fukcing idiot an if you think i aint seen or got a good dog then put your single hander were yer mouth is an ile run my doubled up dog single handed against your single hander if not then shut the fukc up ok thats a shocking way to speak to anyone how can you say your dogs better than his have you seen it, its play ground stuff the hard part is catching not the killing dont worry yourself mate,i fecking dont, he doesnt even warrant a reply, just another hardman sat behind his keyboard not an hard man at all but a dont sit on here chatting shit all day my dogs actually get work an a know there capabilitys an a know about foxs an what it takes to bring them to justice so to speak i never said you did,but what gives you the impression i do ive been hunting 30 yrs with the same mate, just me an him,and in all that time i can honestly say wev'e never doubled up,but then again we cant go out every single night of the week as we both work, probs 3 sometimes 4 and our dogs can cope wi that..could they cope wi anymore than that...im not sure,i know what your saying tho fair play Edited September 27, 2011 by craigyboy Quote Link to post
redcharge 378
A fox would be despatched quicker by a single dog as it becomes a tug of war when doubled up ...imo if you gave a deer a hare and a fox 100yard law charlie would be the easiest caught ....but thats if the dog wants to catch it That is always the question mate, most dogs that put more than a handful of bends into one with out pulling it don't really want it. thats a bold stament to make, like saying if the dog puts more than 15 bends in a hare it dont want it Its a true statement none the less, we all like to kid ourself on sometimes but the fact is a decent enough dog will be up to its fox fast and a fully commited animal will pull that fox within 3 or 4 turns jmho.............anything more is just f*****g about, again JMHO I disagree with you on this lads I think alot depends on the type of ground your running, before the ban we used to do small paddocks, playing fields, parks etc and seen plenty of foxes tie some dogs in knots especially the bigger dogs and I can assure you it wasnt beacause they didnt want them, the dogs just couldn't make the ground up they lost on the turn quick enough especially when the ground was harder. But if a fox got away from a dog in the type of fields in Moo's pictures I would seriously be questioning the dogs. JMHO Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
No need to argue fellas, we can see what your both saying As i said, when it was legal we would double ours up as we may only run a couple a night on some areas and we wanted a run....As i said ALL mine were required to be able to work single handed and prove themselves but many times i would double up. I think the main problem is that many folk used to take perhaps a dozen a season and say they had a proven fox dog, not in my eyes, many would take the occasional fox but aren't so keen when charlie was on the menu every night they went out, only single handed fox dogs should of been bred from IF foxing lurchers were required I'll stick to the bunnies now Quote Link to post
brigg 54
iv herd it all aswell simo. these c**ts thats go out and catch a few foxes a season but they go on as if they have the best fox dogs about. me personaly if couldent get 60 + a season i woulden bother ma arse keeping a fox dog i dont see the point.
