great night with pups + Bryn

Went out last night with Trigger2 with is 7 month old Malamute x lurcher, and Tod my 3/8 bull 5/8 grey pup And Bryn 1x collie grey.Well his pup i never seen pup with so much stamina+drive for 7 months old, it would run all night if needed. Jon does things differnt to i how bring a pup on , he as them out right after there jabs, running around with the older dog. I dont do that , i wait till there are around 11 months old, and bring them on at nice slow+easy pace, and prob get a rabbit about 12 months old . But what i saw with his pup, as really made think (maybe) my way holding them back till 10-11 months old might not be the best way .?? His pup works loose no slip, as soon as jon picked a rabbit in the lamp, he was on to it. It didnt matter where the pup was, he was right down the beam Brill. Tod did great for what he is a powerful bullx pup, he really is using the lamp well now. He put some great runs in, and for his size did great . Bryn well what can i say he knows the score, he makes it look easy. Both Bryn and jon pup worked loose no slip, Tod tried Tod he will get there in time, but he as that much tenacity+drive you have try and hold him back a bit. Jon held him few times, and knows when i say strong the fecker is , he would pull throuh a brick wall he nearly did with him .lol We had 20 odd rabbits, what most we saw we caught. So pups did Great, and Bryn well he never lets you down. So had great day with my son neal earlier with his(degree) and great night with great lad and great dogs Brill Ray

Interesting point on how to bring the dogs on, I suppose a little at a young age could be good, my pup was ferreting first from around 4-5 mnth just having a look, and I gave her runs over the summer on the lamp from around 8 mnths, nice easy rabbits. She's come on well this way. for me anyway, there's improvement every trip out. I work her off the slip for the first couple of runs then she calms right down and walks off the slip nicely.

Just think everyones got there way of doing things mate, whats right for one may not be right for another. Plus as you say every dogs different don't think mine would have responded well at a real early age, had to take it slow with her, with her being at around the right age to start when the easy rabbits were around it made sense to me to wait till then. A collie grey we had when I was a kid started young around 6 mnths and was a cracking dog from start to finish.

If Bryn had done 100 by 15 mnths and still doing the job well now don't think you got it that wrong mate.

bird didnt have his camera with him lastnite and i only have just over half the rabbits here as birds taken the rest . theres no doubt we will be having a few more outings through out the season and we will have cameras with us.

Sounds like a great night, i saw the malamute crosses at the Midland and almost went to have a chat, but myherding instinct was needed to keep an eye on the family........Like you say Ray, different folks have different methods of bringing pups on, I always leave mine until 10/12 months before i start them and that will never change, but be boring if we were all the same

we didnt run any of the dogs doubled up.
