Surely a lot has to do with the dog's ability: if he hadn't had what it takes in the first place, he wouldn't have got that good, and consequently wouldn't have had the confidence which comes from long practice. I bet he doesn't have to run far for most rabbits as he can read them so easily. Of course he couldn't have got that good without an owner who was prepared to put that amount of game in front of him either! Or look after him in the right way.

My old bitch Starlight, still has a huge amount of drive, and is 10 1/2 now. She may not have had as much as Snipe, but she's the only dog I've ever had who has retained that amount of drive into old age. Still wish I'd put him over her  when she was younger.
